Got some good movies...

I rented a few movies, and they're really good. First was Resident Evil, which was pretty entertaining, although not the most...mentally stimulating film of the year. Regardless, a good action/horror film. And Milla Jovovich... Michelle Rodriguez isn't bad either, even if her character is nauseating in her smug "I-told-you-so" manner that contributes less to a horror story of zombies and works more to establish an image of married life for me :p "Mow the lawn!" "Shoot the zombies in the head!" nag nag nag nag nag

Anyway, the other two were even better by far. American History X and Cool Hand Luke are both great movies, and although I'm sure many of you have seen the latter, the former is also highly suggested. It seems that American History X borrows from some of the prison life images of Cool Hand Luke. I have yet to watch the 4th film, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, but I hear great things about it. Anyway, if you're looking for some good movies to rent, those would be my suggestions.

Resident Evil might be a little to tragic for some of you to handle. I cried. In one scene, a............... :( ..........a knife is savagely slaughtered by a laser. It was...horrible.

Resident Evil Entertaining enough for one viewing. Milla is always hot.

American History X Gets kind of preachy at times (political correctness) but it was okay overall.

Cool Hand Luke Great, great movie. The car washing scene is totally HOT, even by today's standards.

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly An epic western with interesting characters. The movie could have been a lot better with some good editing. It was too slow in parts and played too long overall.

The studio sacked the director of American History X during the editing process, and released a cut of the film that had very little to do with the director’s original vision. Hopefully the director’s cut will emerge eventually.

The Good The Bad and The Ugly is one of my favorites. I don't mind the drawn-out parts, especially the unnecessarily long cuts with great music - like Tucco in the cemetery near the end.

Have you seen the other two Italian films with Clint Eastwood? Even though The Good... is the third in the series, the stories aren't continuous from one film to the next. You will see a lot of the same actors in each film though, in different roles. While it isn't necessary story-wise, I recommend watching the three films in chronological order, just to get the natural progression of film-making along with the increasing budgets.

I've heard the American History X story a bit differently. For a new director, he had quite a bit of independance in making the film his way. The trouble began when, overbudget and past-due already, he wanted an extention to remake the film into an entirely different movie. Who knows...
