The Good News was that both my SNG's came in today from TAD. I got one Tanto and one Drop point so that I could decide which one I liked best.
I had read the postings on the "Break in" procedure so I was ready for a long night of "flippin" until my thumb couldn't take anymore.
The both knives started out just like Mick said they would and everything looked great.
Then the Bad News came. After the first couple of flips the lock on the Tanto made a funny tuning fork type of noise. I seems that the lock "springs free" to the point where it doesn't touch the blade when its deployed and the blade wobbles since there is no tension to lock it up solid. I tried to tighten it up, with no success at all. It looks like I'm going to have to send it back tomorrow for a refit. I did notice that when I first worked it there was a serious rough spot just before the thumbstuds engaged the scales. I think the rough spot is where the lockup was originally fitted to so, when this rough spot was "worn in" it disengaged the solid lockup. I know it will be made right by the great people of Striderknives but it still sucks. This is the first time I've had a lick of trouble with anything of theirs.
On the lighter side the drop point is coming along nicely and I expect no problems whatsoever. I hope the turnaround on the tanto won't take too long but, I understand if it does since it coming up on the holidays.
To everybody out there I want to make it clear that I AM and ALWAYS will be an advocate for Strider Knives. There is always a Strider (or two)on me and I wouldn't have it any other way. This was a fluke that falls under the law of Murphy and I NEVER challenge THAT law. I put this out to let some of you know (and you know who you are) that Sh*t happens. Live with it, learn from it, deal with it and don't shovel it like I've seen here lately (ex.GSwen)or you might end up smelling like it(ex.GSwen).
Take care and Happy Holidays to all and have fun with your new Christmas gifts.
