You know those alternate vendors on Amazon.com, those little blurbs that say "24 used and new from..." along with the Amazon-available item? Well, I found a book I'd been looking for for a long time "The Jade Unicorn" in hardcover, good condition, for 6 cents. 6 CENTS!!!! The shipping was around $3.00, about average for a large hardcover book, and worth it if you can't find it locally (and most likely for more than $3.06).

I also found a brand new large size softcover of "The Collected Ghost Stories of M.R. James" for $1.50. If you check out the vendor's feedback and they seem reliable, you can get some good deals.

I've bought a couple of used books that way and have had good luck.

Good advice, Torz, to check the vendor feedback!

Thats the only way I buy books, unless its something I want brand new copies of, like Lord of the Rings. I think the last brand new books I bought were the new Harry Potters for my little brother and sister, and the last Dark Tower book for myself this past July. Lots of good stuff on Half.com too.

Yeah, I learned from experience on that. I had a CD on order and when it didn't show up I e-mailed the seller several times, which was ignored. I then checked the feedback and although they had 3 years of positives, the previous few months they were getting a lot of negs. If I had seen that, it would have saved me a hassle, but the good news is Amazon got my money back for me fairly quickly.
