I have been needing some bushcraft style pants. Something that is indestructable, yet lightweight, not too flammable and the like.

I loved my old BDU's when I was in the USMC so I looked around for some of those.

I settled on these:

I didn't want camoflage, but I wanted something that would work in the woods.

Payment was dead simple, they are made in the Domincan Republic by an American company, and ground shipping was two days - for free (orders of 50 bucks).

I was really pleased with them and I hit the woods with them tommorow. I will let you know how they go.

That's exactly what I use for all my hiking/camping/woodcraft activities. I usually get them from US Cavalry, but same brand. The 65/35 poly/cotton ones are outstanding. They're tough, comfortable and dry far faster than cotton. (I think I recall Ron Hood saying they dry 8x than a pair of jeans).

I'll be interested to hear if you like them as well as I do.

BDU.com has great service. I got myself a set of battlerip multicam tops and bottoms. Also picked up an ACU top on clearance for $10. Can't beat that.

Have you guys tried ACU pants? I find them to be better in nearly every way. The pockets are more functional, the crotch has a better gusset, and the fit is just all around better for me. I wish they came in plain kaki color, but i will make the camo-compromise for the comfort.

I think BDU.com is great. I ordered a pair of the poly/cotton ripstop BDU's in spruce green (on clearance) a couple years ago. They're fine bushcraft/outdoor pants but, like Bolt-action bultema, the ACU's suit me better. The poly/cot ripstop's are thick, rugged and they dry really fast but IMO they are a bit too stiff and I found it hard to get that "broken-in" feel. The ACU's (50/50 Nylon/Cotton)were much more comfortable right out of the package and after about 2 trips through the washer and dryer they were even more soft/comfy. I also like the drawstring waist of the ACU's better vs the side tabs of the BDU's (I have a 35" waist so I order Large). I think the poly/cot BDU's will serve you well but the ACU's are definitely worth looking into....

You know, I'm just the opposite. Maybe just set in my ways, but I can't make myself like the ACU's. The drawstring waist is a pain to me. I LOVE the BDU's! A pair of woodland camo is what I wear most of the time for working around the yard, camping and hiking. They are comfortable as hell, last forever and they can be filthy dirty and look the same as if they just came out of the wash. Sadly, the last time I went to the local surplus store they no longer carry the woodland camo, so now I got to order online.
PS- TF I bought a pair of the khaki for wearing around town, so as not to draw too much attention. Same great features as the woodland camo, except for the filthy dirty part.

I also wear BDU pants. I haven't found a better type of outdoor pant for me. I find poly ripstop BDU pants to be better and more comfortable than the other big name brands (Kelty, Patagonia, North Face).

When ACU's start to come in khaki and OD, I'll pick up a pair.

Not to threadjack or anything but I just picked up some LA Police Gear FUBAR tactical pants for cheap...I was so impressed I bought 2 more pairs! Not sure how long they will last and I'm heading to the woods for a week come Monday so we'll see how they perform. I've also been a Carhartt guy for about the last 10 years and just made the switch to the 60/35 cotton/poly and even nylon zip-offs for my outdoor activities...

Thanks for that link Talfuchre! I see some new BDU clothes in my future. Those poly/cotton and nylon/cotton ripstop pants are my favorite; I haven't yet found better general-purpose outdoor pants. I like that they offer several "civilian" colors as well.

How are the colors, are the similar to the online pics in real life? Sometimes you get them home and they're a completely a different color.
