My greatly anticipated Friday night spent in my work shop was rudely interrupted by Me being a stupid first off, with a Little help from my buddy K.C. (my Chocolate Lab). I had just finished re-handling my Eriksson Mora # 22 in a Curly birch. Had the handle profiled to my liking, nicely oiled with tung oil, and was squaring off the spine with my file. I (stupidly) had taken the tape off the blade and had it positioned edge down in my file. I just dropped some sand paper and went to retrieve it when K.C. (my slightly overweight Chocolate Lab) let out a loud bark. I jumped a little and in doing so ran my left index finger right into the blade cutting right to the bone. I keep all my knives shaving sharp, so it didn't hurt all that bad. Friday night in the Emergency room was much more painfully than the actual cut. Lesson for me...... DON'T TAKE THE TAPE OFF THE BLADE UNTIL IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO DO SO. And then keep you head in what you are doing. Thought I would share it with you all. I will post a link to pics if requested, didn't know if it would be appropriate. For those of you that did something stupid this week, I hope I made you feel a Little better. :D

At least I'm not the only one who found that getting stitches hurt worse than the cut itself.

Take care and speedy healing.

I can remember years ago gluing broadheads on to some wooden arrows I made. I was in a hurry and used a bit to much hot melt. Well my wife was talking to me and my pliers slipped and somehow the head went across my right index finger just about cutting it off. I mean pretty darn clean too! My wife panicked and just ran out of the house. I'm standing there holding my finger together thinking I wonder if duct tape and super glue will work? Well it wouldn't.

So after a few hours of waiting in the ER at a major inner city hospital they finally sewed it up. Lacerated the bone so I had to wear a splint on it to. Not only that but I was a pretty hardcore 1%'er type at the time so to impress the ER doc I said just sew it and be done with it. He was a young kid actually. I was older. He just laughed and didn't ask twice. After 3 stitches my finger was shaking like mad, cause it hurt I tell ya, so then I went the lidacane way. keepem sharp

It sounds like the time i cut my finger putting togeather broadheads for my crossbow. really nasty cut but i didn't even feel it, i dont know what the stitches would have been like, 'cause i just didn't go to the Emergency room.
i probably should have, but i just rapped it in gause and tape and i was good as new in a couple of weeks.

if i have to work with a sharpened blade for whatever reason,i always dull it first.i usually run the edge on the corner of the steel table in my workshop till it's dull
