Build quality seems excellent. Came pretty much unsharpened. Not a big deal as I prefer to do it myself. It's light but with initial use it seems bomb proof as their hammers. Haft is .25" thick. Head swells a little wider at points. Blade grind is fairly obtuse. Not great for woodwork, but that's not what it's designed for. Sheath is nylon, but not too bad. Retention is good. Have a feeling it will prove popular with soldiers. Got my hands on a double bit too. Will post on that later if anyone is interested.

What does the spike look like in detail? It looks sort of like it has a "lip" on it that could stick when penetrating sheet metal.

^....................This x2 Lose the cut out and the lip on the spike.
I LOVE my Estwing framing hammer its a monster and I have beaten it to death for 15+ years and it just begs for more.

I am really interested in pics of the double bit and some different angles to give a better idea of contours and such. Thanks for the pics so far do you have any other popular hawks to show a side by side?

So is this just something people like because it's fun, or does anyone actually have a use for one?

If the spike was replaced by a hammer head I guess I could see where it could be useful for something, but what in the world are you supposed to do with this thing as is?
