Dammit... I have it bad. I cannot wait for the HEST folder that I reserved, so I am thinking of dropping some frogskins for another ESEE. I can't decide between the ESEE 3 and 4. FWIW, I am an urban kind of guy and this knife would be a car/truck knife. I'm not looking for anything over 4 or 5 inches. Your thoughts?
 
Urban carry. If the 3 is legal edc I would get that. If it's to long then may as well get the bigger blade Esse 4.
 
You did not mention what ESEE you currently have I assume the Izula. If you want to stay with the ESEE crew go with the ESEE-3-Mil. Since I see you are an urban guy why not the fixed Hest, unless you already have it.
 
i have to say i don't own either. considering that it's gonna be a truck/car knife, personally i'd say go a ahead and get the 4. weight and size aren't an issue since you're not carrying it, so it couldn't hurt.
 
Dammit.. too much good wine. I should have made it clear that I EDC a HEST and while I have an Izula it remains a show piece and almost never sees carry duty.
 
don't know where you are and any guess at what tasks you would be likely to use it for would be a stab in the dark.

buuut since you EDC a HEST and this is a truck knife i'd lean towards the 4.

either would be a decent choice and it's mostly personal preference.
 
Honestly is your going for a car or truck knife I would go for the ESEE 5. You'll have a blade that's 1/2" thick you can pry with, glass breaker on the end and you'll have a knife that'll get you to the end of the earth and back. It's what I carry in my truck and I know a bunch of other members do too. The blade lenght is only 5.25", just slightly over 5".

Since you already carry a think fixed blade knife, why not a thinner one? I'd go esee-3. Or esee-6 mayhaps?
 
Between those two, I'd probably get the 4 for the car. I've seen others recommend the 5 too with good reasons. Is the 5 too big?
 
for a truck knife i'd get the esee3 mil. glass breaker and easy to stick in a door pocket.
