finally got cash saved up for a new fixed blade.

Im looking at these...
Busse SUS scrofa
Rat RC6
Ranger R.A.K.

im looking for a good all around knife, that could be considered for self defense if needed ie... quick in the hand, nothing to hard to change direction with, easy to get a good hair popping edge on, something that I am not going to have to strope after every use.

I know the price range is wide, but what is the opinion with price to performance ratio included and not.
I mean are busses really that much better of a knife?

OK im about to pull the trigger on a sus scrofa, is it a very usable knife? or would a rat rc-6 be more usable?

Yes Busses are that much better, but I would look in the Busse for sale forum and see if there is anything you might like better. :)

There's got to be something better than the Sus Scrofa that you could get. The slight curve on that blade would make it a pain to sharpen (unless you only use rod type sharpeners).
If the Tank Buster is too heavy (18oz) I'm sure it wouldn't take too long to find a better suited Busse on the for sale forums.
If you're big on extra edge retention, I would also suggest looking at Fehrman knives (http://www.fehrmanknives.com/) as they are constructed really tough, have good edge geometry, and the CPM 3V steel Fehrman uses is very wear resistant.

What will the knife be used for? You mention SD but most folks arent carrying a large fixed blade for self defense. Is this a basic camp/hike/outdoor knife?

I've never owned a Busse so I can't verify those but I have owned a Ranger and currently own a RC5. The RATs are some of the best knives out there and a great bang for the buck. The Ranger knife was also a good knife but their rep take a little hit after their split with the RAT folks.

W/o knowing the price of the Busse, I'd vote RAT.

well I bought the busse, on the count of the shape of the blade use in self defense and the utilitarian cutting edge of a wharncliffe type blade.... mainly sd purposes, plus i just wanted a freakin Busse, know what I mean? Next will be a rat rc-6, I just cant get into the Ferhman knives for some reason. thanks everyone....

i tend to be a sharpening freak, keeping a shaving edge on everything, so I do use rod sharpeners for touching up all blades from week to week or so, so keeping the Busse sharp isnt one of my worries really....

Good call on the Busse. Yeah, I know what you mean when you want a Busse, you WANT a Busse!!

Not a blade i would get as that is probably my worst looking busse but whatever floats your boat:). Enjoy.
