It's a new knife. Call customer service or vendor that sold it to you and see about getting a replacement. No reason to settle for that whether you intend to ever use it or not!

I'm having a hard time figuring out what is creating the appearance of a gap. Is it a gap where the guard should rest against the blade? Strange looking from those angles.

I’ll take some pics from different angles in the morning and post them it looks like there is some steel missing, more like a hole then a gap it’s strange.

I’d never seen that before you mentioned it that stuff looks very useful and easy to use cheers!
While I'm no expert on the subject of silver soldering itself I believe it does involve some heat and how much I'm not sure of. You wouldn't want to mess up the heat treat. I would head over to the knife makers forum and ask around I'm sure they will have some great ideas and also a lot of knowledge about securing guards on different knives.

I would most definitely return . Don't accept this kind of poor QC . Encourage CS to meet a higher standard .
Yeah I think I must have gotten one from the first batch but still this one should not have been allowed out of the factory, fortunately cold steel is sending another.

After many years of Seki production, this year is the first for the Taiwan factory so I suppose there could be some teething problems in the beginning. Regardless, as CS is replacing it should be no problems.

The 3V Tai Pans were made in Taiwan and all of the ones that I saw were flawless. Is San Mai steel that difficult to work with?

I have owned three of the 3vs and one had a tiny gap and the guard wobbled but not like this and I see an Amazon review of a 3v tai pan someone had the same issue I hope my next one is fine.
