Hello All-

I had my mind all settled on a Tenacious from Spyderco when a fellow-customer got me thinking about Case knives. I haven't owned a slippy since I was a kid, and I only got this one because the "lockup" is very solid. Hard to open, hard to close. That's a good thing. And it's a very nice looking knife. I put a convex edge on it, and now it's sharp as I can get it.:D:D

Here's a borrowed pic:

Chewy,

Very knice Barlow knife!... Much sweeter than a Spydy IMHO.

Blues,

Great quote!.

Careful. Slipjoints can be an insidious disease, sneaking in and taking you over. The best thing is to just let it run its course and buy more slips.

Kinda hard to go wrong with a classic like a barlow, and a Case at that.

And all this time, I thought I was the only one that had this disease.:D

Mighty fine knife you got there,
it wont be the last slippy. :D trust me.
Now you can wait for the carbon steel virus. ;)

Oh, I like carbon steel already...got a couple Bark Rivers in A2 to prove it.

Speaking of which, what is the steel in Case knives??? How does it hold an edge?

Most of their patterns are in "Tru-Sharp Stainless", a 420HC variant. It is a decent, useful steel for the kinds of things you generally ask a pocket knife to do, and is highly rust and stain resistant.

Some few of their patterns (fewer every year, it seems -- there's a whole thread on this right now) are available in "Chrome Vanadium" (CV), which is very similar to 1095 carbon steel, and is preferred by a number of Case aficionados.

I personally feel Case intentionally limits CV bladed patterns to drive up collector interest, but I'm just cynical that way...
