Very nice, Neil. I'm glad you didn't go with half-breed. LOL.

So when are we going to get cracking on that site?

According to the web site linked above, Neil Blackwood (Dr. Lathe) can be reached at:

Blademakr@aol.com

Neil makes some very creative and well constructed knives. My favorite is the knife at the bottom of his web page that he made from a scrap piece of M2 steel.

I already have a bead blasted HGT with tan micarta handles and a Litewave with black polished g10 handles and red spacers. I just ordered an American Ninja with blue g10 handles. If you don't have a Blackwood knife, get one on order now! In my opinion Neil is probably in the top 5 makers as far as getting the most for your money. While I respect a lot of the "big name" custom makers, there are several makers out there that make knives just as well but seem to do it more quietly. Kit Carson started out this way and just look where he is now. Neil's waiting time is currently about 2 months and I would bet that by this time next year it will be over a year.

I have a skeletonized LiteWave which I picked up from Neil. Great knife, and very unique look and feel.

Neil's designs as well as fit and finish are top notch.

As my friends Lewis and Big Jim have told me in the past: highly recommended.

That is sweet looking!!!!! Are you still working on the Chute design? "HHMM" a chute with a copis style blade...........

The quality of Neil's knives are equaled only by his personality.
It never fails to impress me that he produces such phenomenal pieces as a part-time maker. When he does decide to go full time, his success is a given.
The "American Ninja" is clear evidence of his ever-evolving skill and artistry.

I bought Neil's last new knife, his "My Own Tactical", and thought, okay, I can now by knives from other makers because it will be at least half a year before he comes up with another great design. Shows you how wrony you can be. Anybody want to buy a Neil Blackwood My Tactical so I can keep up?

No, I'm not willing to part with it, I just wish he'd slow down so I can keep up....

Gus, everyone,
I'm touched!! I would like to thank you all for you kind words and compliments. I've been VERY busy in the shop and as you can see, I've not been here for a few days.
The American Ninja is just the first of three knives of this size and and handle style. The response has been overwhelming and I'm almost afraid to introduce the next one!!
With my current backlog, I've been considering going full time. Walking away from a secure job with benefits is a scarry thought. The next year will prove to be very interesting. I would consider myself blessed if I could make a living, doing what I love the most!
Again, Thanks,
Neil

The favorite custom knife I own (well my wife own's it) is a Neil Blackwood tanto. Neil's work is amazing. His personality is even better. If you have ever found your self wanting a knife from Neil, I would order it now. I suspect his delivery time will increase to over 1 year, in less then a years time.

Congratualations Neil. You deserve it.

Lynn,
Remember about 6 months ago, my response to your saying that I would have a 1 year backlog sooner or later??????
OK, I take back what I said now!! As I mentioned above, I would MUCH rather make knives than WORK for a living!!

Looking forward to meeting you in Atlanta,
Neil
