Yes! I got use the HEST today. I also got a better understading of what I'll use it for. I did some batoning. It hurt. This is not a firewood processing knife, obviousley. But it will do in a pinch. After batoning I just hammered it into a log for about 20 minutes to test edge retention. Very nice, it lost it's shaving capability but it still had a very decent edge and did well at whittling. A few swipes on the sharp maker's coarse and fine rods brought back it's shaving edge. I will post of a more thourough review on YouTube and post a link soon enough.
I plan on keeping this knife on me at all times while doing outdoor activities. I got some fishing wire and a couple of hooks in there. I've gotten rid of the matches and will put a fire steel into it as well. Maybe lmf maya dust or wet tinder if it fits.
