Gotta brag a little on my Cousin!

The page took a long time to load, like it kept trying to install cookies on the computer. but the story did eventually appear. Here's a blurb:

MARION - Vice Admiral Nancy Brown has not forgotten her roots.

Even though she is the highest-ranking female officer ever in the U.S. Navy and serves the Department of Defense as principal adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on all C4 (computer) systems, Brown, 54, is proud to call Marion her home.

That is very neat, you must be very proud (in a good way).
It's hard enough for men to make it up that high, so all the more amazing for your cousin, being a woman. Congrats to you and her!

Technically it's printed in Carbondale and covers the whole Southern Illinois region. I grew up between Marion and Eldorado, a little village called Crab Orchard.

We toured the Crab Orchard N.W.A. when I went to Illinois Forestry Camp a long time ago.

My uncle drove a UPS truck based out of Marion, just retired.

I would be proud also, serving our country is a VERY HONORABLE thing to do and she has made it very high, maybe one day she will be one of the Joint Chiefs
herself. Be sure to invite me to her commissioning service.

Aah! VADM Brown -- I met her when she was CAPT Brown and (I think) even when she was 'just' LCDR Brown. A fine woman, an outstanding officer.

Very glad she's moving up in the ranks. As I recall, she had a lot of common sense to go with the brilliance.

You're right to be proud.

The village and the NWA are about 25-30 miles apart. The NWA actually got it's name from the Crab Orchard lake that was created when they dammed the Crab Orchard creek that came all the way from the village.

Your uncle and I know some same folks then, I have several friends that are either retired UPS or current.

Small world ain't it!

Please pass along my congrats as well, TLC. What an outstanding accomplishment for her. Move over Grace Hopper. :D

Wow, it is a small world. How many years were you in the service?
