It struck again, I have just now placed an order for not just one but two new HI blades. When they arrive I shall be the proud owner of a Malla and a 16.5 WWII.
Thanks to the folks who a few months ago helped me track down the information I needed that helped me make this decision.

Congratulations and please don't forget to post plenty of photo's of them in action. ;)

I've been seriously infected too...within the last month I bought a 15" BGRS-V (my first), a 16.5" WWII, baby AK (love that lil guy!) and have a 18" M-43 and Katunje special on the way (should arrive tomorrow!).

One affliction I'm glad to have!

They arrived earlier this week, Sometime around the 7th. I had just enough time to unbox them and handle them a bit before I had to get back on the road:(:grumpy: for my job. After spending a good chuck of last week out in the wind and cold I didn't feel up to taking them out and putting them through thier paces. I am hoping that I have some time later this week to actually try them out.

Warning:Having problems sleeping so this nex part may be a bit scatterbrained

I will say this out of the models of HI that I do own, other than my Museum Model, the Malla screams out weapon ( as has been commented on by previous posts). Soon as I get some more comprehensive usage out of them I will let you folks know. My wife was saying if the malla was about 4" shorter it would probably end up as hers. It bumped the Dui Chirra as the "investigate bumps in the night kuk" so it sleeps on my bedstand at night when I am home.

Still don't know what I think about the 16.5 WWII, other than it's solid. I defiantely prefer the pointier kuks. However, it definately looks like it could remove some serious limbs if it had too. ( I'll let you folks decipher what I mean by that).

I'll probably try out the WWII first in helping to clear some small brush that I have been struggleing with for a while. I am expecting it will chop better than my non HI kukris but not as well as my M-43 or Dui Chirra.

Both blades slid in and out of thier scabbards fairly easily. I wear my Kuks on my right hip and use a revolver quick-draw to remove them, so I like my scabbards on the loose side. If I ever had a gripe about one of my HI's it was my M-43 had too tight of a scabbard and I haven't taken the time to loosen it up.

After the WWII test I'll see what the Malla can do, right now due to is size and weight it is really my favorite kuk ( so far) to actually wear on my side.

The Karda and Chakma on the Malla both have a kukri like apperance to them. The Karda even has a rudimentary cho on it. The karda came fairly sharp even straight out of the box. and after the one on the M-43 is probably my second favorite in terms of size.

The WWII came with a nice blond wood handle on the Kukri and on both the karda and the chakma. again the karda was of decent sharpness, I'm sure on both the kardas I can get that better with a few strops on a diamond stone.

Ok folks I'm Crashing I'll continue this a bit later after I get some sleep.

Anyway thanks to HI and where's that bleeping doc to help me with this HIKV :D

Don't know what a doc can do to help you. HIKV goes into remission only when money or storage space is hard to find. Once both increase enough to allow for another khuk, you'll be back here triple-checking the Deal of the Day.

Congrats! Here's hoping you'll be able to have his-and-her Mallas at your home.

I finally got a chance to take out both the 16.5 WWII and the Malla. I went to the back side of our animal pen where we were doing some clearing. there was a twisted tnagled Mulberry tree that was screaming take me down. Normally I would do this with an axe. I figured what the heck so i went and grabbed my WWII and my wife with the digital camera and took that puppy down. Sweetie hasn't yet sent me the pics/video of me taking down that mulberry. The WWII sent chips of wood flying as I sat down next to it and chopped through the trunk. No chipped, dull or rolled edges later. I did loose some intial sharpness but hacking a tough hardwood like that I expected it.

I drug the trunk to our delimbing area and proceeded to use the Malla to buck the tree near the top of the trunk.I had to take bigger chips out with the malla due to it's slender shape andit took more swings to chop through the trunk than the WWII model but it did the job. Again no chipped or rolled edges. Lost some sharpness but nothing I couldn't live with.

It was then that my wife realised that she hadn't been recording when I was using the Malla. So we are going to try it again tomorrow and hopefully she will have sent me the pics and/or video that she took.

I thank the WWII is going to be my EDC ( Every Day Chopper) when I am out clearing the property now, with the Malla as a general carry blade.

I was correct in that the WWII did not chop as easily as my M-43 or Dui Chirra, but it's a heck of a lot easier to carry and it will get the job done. Might have to see how it's bigger brother the 18 incher does several months from now.

I also wanna see how both blades do against light and heavy vines. I have a feeling that the Malla may actually outclass the 16.5 WWII model i this aspect but only testing will tell.

Again as soon asI have the pics I will share them with this forum.

Still dealing with HIKV

I Ain't right :)

So your EDC is a EDC on many occasions? :D

Yep everytime I step out on my backyard I have a kukri on my belt

You are not alone. ;)

Hope the pic's are posted asap.

Working on it, having some technical issues with the vids right now

Marc, thanks for taking the time to talk about your new Khuks. It's nice to hear from people about them. My 16.5" WWII is my EDC (I call it my go to blade). It handles the heavy stuff well and also the light stuff pretty good too. Not as good as a Mala, Sirupati or GS but much better then my Ang Khola's.

Had an M43 years ago but had to sell it before I could use it. Some day I'll get a new one...... It's nice to hear that you have used yours. There was a time when people were not using theres, something about them being to pretty or having to many other blades. Others that have used there M43's have noted that they make great choppers. If yours has thinner stock (Relative to an AK) it might make a good brush blade also.

Am looking forward to your pictures, videos and more write ups. Thanks!!

Osiyo Marc! Evidently you're still busier than a cat on laxatives trying to keep crap covered up. ;) :D How long has it been now since we first started trying to get together to talk kukris and compare collections?

My M-43 will handle the lighter stuff if I let it. Unfortunately I have a small nick in the front part of the blade, from clearing light stuff. Still trying to figure out how that bleeping cog got up in that vine wrapped tree. So if i can't see through it I use my non HI kuks.
I do not own any of the AK series so I can't tell ya how thick or thin my 43's blade is compared to them.

roughly 18 months, trust me I have been wanting to do this, but stuff gets in the way.

Would love to see your collection, Putting eyeball on a few might answer some questions I have :)

Didn't realise I had an odd technique. I am using the kuk similar to the way I use an axe, alternating between the angle cut then the bottom vertical cut.

Marc Adkins

thx for upload, always fun to see people using their kuks!

but you've a bit odd technique there, bending your hand so that working part of the edge hits trunk at straight angle (I think, I'm not so skilled myself)
