So my place got broken into back around the first of he month, and in addition to everything else the wonderful people took, they made off with my 4 pieces of Ted Frizzell (Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works) customs. 1 large tanto, 1 small tanto, 1 para axe, and 1 kukri. Have had (and used, and loved) them for going on 10 years now, almost like they were part of the family. Anyway, the point of this ramble is that when I turn them in on my insurance, with description, cost, website, etc, the insurance company comes back with Gerbers, S&W's, and a flippin' fireman's axe as replacements!!! Just had to chuckle...some folks don't get it. Granted, they weren't Busse's, but I still miss them. If anyone HAPPENS to see someone wandering around the Phoenix area with no idea what they have, smack them once (or twice) for me...

That is a real shame to hear, but if you ask your insurance company may have a specialist. My uncle went through a similar experience when his rare motorcycle was totaled. The insurance company wanted to give him about 25% of it's value, but when he talked to a specialist he was able to converse with the guy bike dude to bike dude, and the value of the bike was realized.

I'm not saying they will have a knife dude, but maybe someone who understands that not all 'equipment' is created equally. Good luck!

Oh, and if you don't want the fireman's axe, we could always use another one at my station :D

Got pics? Got receipts? Got boxes? You have to help the insurance guys to help you. They have to work with what you give them. In the absence of proof of ownership they will go with the cheapest thing available.

Interesting.. I just adjusted my insurance the other day, and was assured that I would get replacement value for it's appraised value. I have some REALLY expensive guitars, that I wanted to Itemize, and they were sure to get the valus of replacement TO me including sentimental worth... so I added like $1,000 to one of them because I wanted to be SURE that if I had to replace them or one, I'd be able to replace them MINT.

That really grinds my gears. We had our house broken into a little over a year ago. I had 4 knives stolen, my Mom had 15 dollars in change stolen, and my desktop image was changed to an obscene image. Thanks to the desktop image being changed, I knew exactly who did it. Went and got 3 of the knives and my Mom's money back shortly after that...

EDIT: Definitely don't let the insurance company get away with this if there's anything you can possibly do about it. That's like have a Les Baer custom 1911 insured, and getting a Jennings .22 back instead! That would piss me off more than having the knives stolen in the first place. Insult to injury and all that.:grumpy:
