It's addicting...Reading who's been boosted overboard for all the various infringements...shoe spamming, DVD spamming, pill spamming...spamming I never even heard of...Sassing the mods...Trying to sneak back in when banned... :D

And the comments...priceless!!! :p

I really enjoy these threads...and the other threads, too...

I am glad that The Management has allowed these to be viewed by all...:thumbup:

I've never understood, what's with all the shoe and DVD spammers? I know I don't log on to learn about the latest "deals" on Nike trainers or films available, not too likely that anyone does. There are, like, dedicated stores for those products and probably online discussions too so why spam it here?

I wonder if ShoeForums.com has a problem with guys trying to sell their knives there..

They're not real people. They're spam-bots, basically software programs that browse the net and register at random forums to post their wares. I can't imagine it's very successful, but they keep at it so I may be wrong.

This has been a bad month for spammers. Not too much happening on the troll front.

Aaargh! Mistake, Mr. M ...

Like other semi-marvellous (pseudo-mythical) creatures, trolls have been known to be summoned merely by speaking their names.

On an internet forum, that could extend to typing their names.

Time to stock the battlements and fill the moat.;)

I suppose from a cost stand point if it is a software program if they get 1 or 2 hits for every couple thousand posts across the web then it’s a win for them.

Pain in the rear though.

Not at all. It's much more satisfying banning Uncle Jarvis for making a fool of himself again than some anonymous automatic advertiser. :)

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I thought the spambots were just programs searching for email addys to add to spamming lists, didn't realise they also register and post, so to speak. Well I never was much of an IT guy, heh.

Often, what they'll do is detect a forum, go through an automated registry process using a bunch of real but otherwise abandoned email accounts (the spambots have email addresses and passwords obtained by whatever means), and sit quietly.

Sometimes for months. Then, a particular spammer can trigger the accounts with a different spam both that actually posts the spam. That's often why you get a spate of spammers from some bizarre industry segment all at the same time, like shoes, DVDs, cell phones, etc: they're being triggered by the same bot at the same time.
