gouges or pits created by a file

I have spent lots of hours putting a convex edge (my first) on my Tramontina machete. I knew ahead of time that i would likely screw up, and now I have a few spots from where I did my filing that are sort of pits or gouges made by my poor filing technique.

I've spent considerable time going from 400 grit paper, realizing it wouldn't work (after a couple sheets...) and then now on 100 grit to get rid of the primary grind lines, and hopefully the pits/gouges I created during filing.

My question is, can I leave the gouges or will they be a hot spot for rust to form? some of the ones I need to get out are just barely past where the convex starts (old shoulder of the primary grind), so i would need to sand them by hand to get them out and I don't exactly want a dip in the steel where they are, I would prefer to wait until I sharpen the blade enough that they eventually disappear if it won't matter, I can learn to live with my mistakes... It doesn't help that I am a perfectionist with these types of things, I just want to be able to be done with this convex and feel good about it.

I'd go file, 100, 150, 220, 300, 450, 600. You'll need to remove all marks from the previous grit. You will be happy with the results, but it does take patience. I fixed a stainless spoon of my wife's that way, it had gotten a nasty scratch. I followed 600 with 1800 and 3000 and a buffing wheel but you said you are in a hurry.

It's a machete, not a scalpel. A few lines from filing won't make one iota of difference in the way it cuts.
