I just bought the infamous Fred Perrin Neck Bowie. It's a beautiful design. The blade is such a great shape. But i found that bump on the handle, right after the choil, bothersome. It pokes out and my middle finger wasn't getting the proper leverage when i made a grip. If you look close you can see where i colored the area with a pencil. Wonder if anyone else has experienced this. Anyway, here's my fix.
I used my Wicked Sharp as a vice and darkened the work area with a sharpie.
I used my Shark vac to suck up the dust as i cut off as much as possible with a dremel and a cut-off wheel attachment. Oh, and when the piece popped off, i grabed it ... whoa-nilly!!!
i'll post a pic of the blister later
. Live and learn.
Then i removed the rest with a metal grinding stone. I made sure to stop periodically so the blade wouldn't get hot and ruin the tempering. Not sure if that would happen but i didn't want to chance it.
I rounded off the edges with the grinder and then hit it with 2500 grit paper. In fact, i did the whole handle and gave it a nice matt finish. Fits perfect now.
A few more shots of the finished alteration. Thanks for letting me share this with y'all.
