I tried to unscrew the "screw" at the end of the pommel with a screwdriver and it twisted off the pommel. Apparently, rather than use loctite, glue was used instead, rendering it impossible to unscrew the pommel without twisting off the 1/8 thick" threaded tip. Why put a female screw there, with a screw slot, if you can't unscrew it? I was wanting to inspect the tang. Simple enough. Just unscrew it and inspect it. And where it failed looks more like pot metal than heat treated steel. You have a pommel here that is designed to be hammered on and it breaks with a screwdriver rather than a hammer.
