I spend atleast 8 months of any given year out in the African playing fields, some pretty remote locations very few people have ever heard of.

So far my Leatherman and Dragunov bayonet has been my faithfull companions - lest it be time for a change!

So my question, in your field experiences - which is better for feel, quality, general usage durability and self protection, the GOV-TAC or Daggert II ?

I notice the GOV-TAV seem to have a much thicker blade, where the Daggert has the available serated edge...

Cheers!

it would be much more practical to go with the gov-tac I have one and find it to be very balanced has a good grip the blade is thicker its 3/16, where prying would be much better,it cuts well holds an edge for lots of cutting.
the daggert looks cool has 2 kinds of serrations good for sticking things,
not prying or digging. have you looked into the seal team elite? 1/4 inch thick blade has serrations holds an edge 3 times longer comes with a much nicer sheath or a seal pup elite great knife! hopes this helps.

Yes, I had a look at it and it seems like an ideal knive based on blade design. The grip tends to be something I'm trying to avoid. Experience with the bakelite handle of the bayonet I normally use - sweaty hands make for slippery knive handling.

How does the Seal pup's glass reinforced Zytel handle rate against the GOV-TAC S21T's rubberized Kraton handle - in terms of prolonged usage and bear handling. My instict would point to the Kraton for all-weather usage, although in the long term it might wear out quicker than the Zytel?

Any chance we might expect a Seal version with Kraton instead of Zytel?

One thing I forgot to mention is the tip of the gov-tac gets thin quick.
you would have to be careful prying as not to break the tip.
as far as the seal pup elite handle of all my knives I like it the best its a very sure grip
next would be seal team elite then all of my beckers.
the grip on the gov-tac is good it grips good but in hot weather and lots of use
it could get a bit mushy. hope this helps.

Bazzaa, I'd go with the Gov-Tac like exidor recommended because it's probably a better utility blade. Then I'd go with a Pentagon or Mini Pentagon as backup or for times when you needed serrations. Also look into the SEAL Revolver. ;)
