Government Assistance at Last

We have all heard about so called government assistance programs but finally the government of Ontario has a program that assists little old me!

They have banned raw fish in sushi restaurants just in time for my new sushi knife which has just come on line. Now I can package up a sushi cookbook, bamboo mat to roll up your homemade sushi, and a brand new sushi knife and sell it as a do it yourself kit......AND the government can't stop people from using raw fish at home.

This law has some potential. Now how do I come up with enough capital to put a full page ad in the Toronto Star or the Globe and Mail?

Don't be sure. They'll pass another law to implement the first one by mandating fish sellers boil everything before they sell it. :D

New Jersey had a law against selling under-cooked eggs. Widely violated, even more widely ridiculed. One of many similar reasons that Governor got voted out.

If your talkin' 'bout McGreevy, that was the least of his bad decisions.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard! So what are they going to serve in sushi restaurants now? Cheeseburgers!!! So does this mean that these establishments have to shut down? Typical government sticking it to the man once again.

Even though they've yet to record a case of disease related to sushi, health officials say it's better to be safe than sorry.

"We in Ontario haven't had any reports of diseases per se," Ontario's associate chief medical officer of health, Karim Kurji, told The Globe and Mail. "But our concern is to do this on a precautionary basis rather than react to a disease when it shows up."

I have been eating sushi for years and I have never, ever gotten sick.

That is absurd!

Is that what we (you) pay legislators to do - sit around and think up laws to prevent bad things that have never even happened?

I guess next they will outlaw chili, hot dogs, rum & coke, and Mexican food - since they have all made me sick at one time or another.

No. I'm talking about Jim Florio, who lost to Christy Whitman because he couldn't stop with the stupid laws -- he was in a friendly competition with Mario Cuomo, to see who could wreck his state's economy the worst.

By ignoring the stupid law, until one of them gets busted. Then there will be a major media commotion, and maybe the law will be withdrawn. The politicians will have gotten their publicity for trying to 'protect' the publci, so everyone will go home happy.

Meanwhile, I hope George sells a lot of sushi knives anyway! :D

Well, one more dumb law to add to our ever increasing list. :grumpy: Not that I eat sushi much, but I know alot of folks who do. Why cant the government just stay out of peoples lives? :grumpy:

I guess you'll have to roll your own (literally), or find a Sushi Speakeasy. Bootleggers and mobsters will rush to fill the void left by ligit sushi bars.

I make light because it's just so preposterous, I don't want to believe it's true. And I don't want to believe that it could happen here, but I know all it takes is moronic lawmakers and equally clueless voters, both of which I daresay the US has more than Canada. :barf:

I remember the egg fiasco, it created a tremendous amount of anger [justified]. I hope the Canadians rise up and change the law and throw out the idiots. Solutions to non existant problems are always there ,like Schwartzenegger's ban of the 50BMG cartridge and guns .Like criminals would buy a $10,000 , 30 lb gun !!

A do it yourself "Sushi_Easy"
Cool.

We went to a wedding in West Virginia and they wouldn't serve a rare hamburger. The waitress said that it was against the law

Another case of childproofing the world.

Well, that takes Ontario off of my vacation list.

I love sushi. Spicy Tuna Roles are my favorite. And an Alaska roll is great too.

I like sunny-side-up eggs runny.

I like a real Ceasar Salad.

And I want my steak (and my burger) rare, thank you.

Please tell me this is a joke. Are my over easy eggs and hash browns with bacon next? I live in California and I don't think that even our legislature could get away with that. In fact given the large number of Aisians living here I know they couldn't.

I wouldn't bet om that one.

It's been against the law here for years to sell raw meat in a resteraunt. Sushi bars "flash" the meat 1st, basicly they drop it into boiling water then bring it back out immediatly just "flashing" it. It gets them around the stupid law and does nothing to the taste. There are always ways around.

George, if you don't have a "contract" rate that page will cost just over $40,000.

BTW, when did this ban become effective? I buy sushi on a regular basis and I've never heard of it. If it's true, I'll just have to go over to my sister's place more often - she makes great sushi!

Is that just fish or does that mean that Carpaccio, steak tartare and other raw beef dishes are also verbotten?

If sushi is outlawed, only outlaws will have sushi. :D

On a serious note, care to post pics of the knife?

The law was to come into effect on Oct 1st, I don't know if it is being enforced yet.

I suspected that a full page would be very expensive, that is why I used the term "capital" instead of spare change.....I can dream can't I.

Photos are being held up while the art department puts one of her other hats and promotes the store then she puts on the accoutant's hat and takes care of year end.
