I am thinking about getting a GPS unit to try some geocaching.
I have looked around and am thinking about a Garmin etrex Venture HC.
Does anyone here have one? Likes, dislikes?
I want to keep the price around $125.00 or so.

TIA

Have the Garmin etrex Vista HCx, bought to replace a very old 11[ or maybe 12] I'd had forever that finally gave up the ghost. Brought me home on many dark nights when waterfowl hunting.

I love Garmin stuff and you can talk to a REAL person when you call.

My model is above your price point but Google "Garmin Users group' and bet you'll find folks with exactly the info on the model you want.

Be sure to consider the cost of map updates. Garmin units, for example are cheaper up-front, but keeping them up-to-date costs more in ther long run.

I stopped by Sportsman's Warehouse and checked one of these out. It looks like it will do everything that I want one to do.
As for the maps, it has a basic map pre loaded in it. I usually carry an atlas of topo maps when I'm out and about, so I don't think I'll need to down load maps.

As for the I-phone apps, thanks for the info, you might find this hard to belive, but all I use a cell phone for is phone calls.
