added a small Maxped strobe pouch and secured through the wrapped paracord w/ a malice clip (can be easily removed if I don't want the "kit" portion)

awesome, mtwarden. You got the basics coverd.
Shelter, fire, cord, navigation, water and a great knife and a few other goodies.
With the clothes on your back, You could do a night out with ease with that set up if you had to. If the night out was with out rain/snow all the better lol.

One of my favorite knives just got better. Great kit mt.

I too like knife based kits and man that is a very slick setup! nice sheath too. Eric and crew does very nice work

^ I was happy to see Eric (Normark) post up here recently- looks like he got things sorted and is back in business! :D

Hey, mtwarden, You wear that pouch on the knife sheath much?

I have tried many carry options with sheath based kits and I find that I did not like it much. It seemed to bulky to me. I use a small pouch to hold my mini kit, as I call it.

I put it on my belt next to me knife though. I have found that I like it better that for carry and the pouch does not stick out so much from my side.

Just wondering if you carry the knife and pouch together much.

Take care,

Bryan

Bryan- well thought out kit ^ :)

yeah I do wear it fair bit of the time, my F1 goes w/ me when hunting, snowshoeing, basically anytime I think a larger knife would be more suitable than my neck knife setup

the pouch is ~ 2" in width, the knife/sheath is pretty darn flat- less than a 1/2"- carrying on belt vs the knife would only shed ~ 1/2" off- keeping it on the knife just lets me simply grab and go :)

Nice mini kits, Mike and Bryan!

Mike, the ranger band around the heatsheet must really help. I'll need to give that a try. Where do you get one of those twist&go bags? I've been looking for a 1L water bag to replace the Aqua pouch I currently use. I don't like folding the pouch against the zipper to fit it into smaller belt pouches.

I'm actually looking to knock my own psk pouch back down to a maxpedition M2 (same size as Bryan's pouch).

it's called the "1 qt emergency water bag"- from the same outfit that sells the aqua pouch- this bag is less sturdy than the aqua pouch, but still reasonably strong and is lighter and packs smaller

if you want something even lighter/less volume (less capacity ~ 1/2 quart) the MRE hot beverage bag is a good one too

mtwarden, Thanks, Thanks for explaining that. Like I said I was just wondering if you carried your set up much.

Thanks, HikingMano, I think that M-2 pouch will work great for ya.
Say just a thought, instead of folding your water pouch. can you just roll it up and then slide it into your pouch? If that did not make sense to you let me know and I will post a pic of what I mean. Sometimes I do not explain my self very well:).

Bryan

Thanks Mike, I haven't checked out that site in a while  Those bags look perfect.

Bryan, I get what you're saying. Maybe I could fold it half way and roll it up to get it to fit in a smaller pouch. I'll give it a try later. I'm thinking I might convert to the bag Mike's using though, looks perfect.

Mike, carrying the heavy sewing needle in a sealed pot stirrer is such a great idea

Might as well contribute my mini-kit as well. It's not grab and go like Mike's, but close enough for me . I'm working to simplify it further. I've already dropped some stuff from the pouch.

Belt Kit (and some pocket stuff):

The knife and canteen/cup kit are the absolute bare minimum for any trip. Those two go with me everywhere, no exception.

Small baggie on the left has a tea packet (Having issues? Stop, make a cup of tea, and enjoy your tea as you take a mental step back). $20 in cash in middle baggie. Baggie on the right has MP1 tabs and a mini-Bic.

-50ml conical tube (waterproof) with full size bic, char cloth, and jute twine
-Tea-light candle (quick heating in conjunction with heatsheet, bic-conserving lasting flame to light difficult tinder)

-Signaling Mirror
-2x 1qrt heavy duty ziplocs (water storage and wound irrigation)
-1 Aqua Pouch (water storage, can carry with cord too)

-AMK 1 or 2 person heatsheet (can't remember and I forgot to write it on there)
-20ft 8-strand paracord
-SWAT-T (tourniquet - can be applied with one hand, can also be used as pressure dressing, as an ace bandage, or in splinting)
-Bandana, Duct tape
-Moleskin (enough for one or two nasty blisters)
-6x600mg ibuprofen, loperamide w/ scanned directions
-Double-sided diamond plate
-80lb Spiderwire fishing line, trip wire, thread (don't remember how much of each fits on a bobbin, but a I know it's a good bit)
-Hooks with attached line, 2 needles with attached thread, couple of small safety pins (probably will never use the stuff in this baggie, but space and weight is negligible).

Nice kit MT.....

You got lots o love for them Falknivens. Good stuff. Great blades. I hear great things about Erics stuff. He seems like a skilled bushman too.

Russell, Nice kit on that NWA bro.

I, also love kits that are build around the knife. To me it ensures it will always be with me, as whenever I head to the woods I make sure to take the knife with me.

thanks gents

^^^ nice kit :) what NWA do you have? sheath looks very well built, like the nylon dangler on it too :)
