Anybody know if this grade has any uses in knifemaking? I stumbled across a couple of pieces today at a local shop and the guy wants to get rid of it cheap.

Peter, Im not sure what grade 2 is. I have some "commercially pure" titanium. I wonder if that what you have. It doesnt spring back like the 6L4V because it lacks the vanadium. I have used it for liners on fixed blades, its no good for liner locks folders. It anodizes good. Makes good lightweight bolsters too.

peter, Tom used grade 2 at the folder in for the scale overlays, and I believe the frame with his modular liner lock. Its easier to work than the 6al4V stuff. How much does the guy have? Im working on my damascus FB with anodized Ti scales soon and have been lookin for some :)

Thanks guys. He's got a couple of small pieces, not too much. I don't know what he wants for it but I figure I'll wait a while and not look too interested and see if I can get it for very little.

That's all it said, Darrel. It said .125 grade 2 and that was about it. It certainly had the gray look of ti sheet stock and the guy said that was what it is. It was sitting out back of a shop where it has lain for several years by the look of it. The printing was the sort of computerized block style in blue ink that I have often seen on other titanium stock so I'm reasonably sure that's what it is. I could always sand up an edge and hit it with the torch to test the color response. There were also some TIG test weld spots on one of the sheets, something that I have also seen on scrap titanium in the past.
