Grade 60 ReBar anybody know what type of steel this is made from?
Suppose to be an acceptable forging grade steel.

I tried to find that once but all the specs only refer to mechanical properties. You'd have to contact one of the steel makers to find out.The easier way is to forge and heat treat a piece to see if it's ok.

Ray Richard has used it successfully quite a bit. If he hasn't left yet maybe he'll chime in here's a link to several of his posts:

Rebar is a little of this and a little of that. Lots of railroad track and other good stuff, its not all crap like most people think. Carbon is also added to the mix. By what I can tell by grinding it I'd say its at least .60 carbon. I believe 1060 is considered a high carbon steel but on the lower side.

I've done a number of knives out of 60 grade rebar. I'm not saying its all the same but what I have used made good blades. I've never had a piece that wouldn't harden up but I'd do a test piece before I spent a bunch of time working on a blade. If I can answer anymore questions let me know...

This is one I did a few months back out of 60 grade rebar....
