What do you think of my son's graduation present? He graduated last month from NCSU and I had CRK make this for him.

He got it Friday at CRK's booth at the Blade Show and was completely surprised.

I think that's a very generous gift. Congratulations on your sons graduation.

Can you tell me more about the engraving? It looks excellent! I've been thinking about getting CRK to engrave something for me but I'm not sure of their limitations or requirements.

Wow, that's really cool. What a nice little reminder that he was able to graduate college, not such an easy task to accomplish. It's probably pretty neat that both of you are able to share the same hobby as well. Great idea.

That is great, really well done. I bet it really knocked his socks off, good on ya'.

Very cool gift. How long did it take and how did you get the logo for them to use?

What a great present-what a great Dad!!

Was the knife waiting for him at the CRK booth or did you give it to him while in front of it? Either way that was a terrific idea!

I got in touch with Heather at CRK and she helped me through the entire process. She was excellent to deal with and really helped me get it done. I was not familiar with the various finishes, so I left it up to Heather and the machinist to determine which looked the best. His graduation date is on the back side.

He completed his BS degree with a 4.0, was a valedictorian, and has already started doing research for his Masters degree. He has been interested in knives from a very early age and I told him early on that I did not have a problem with him having/buying knives, but to save his money and buy quality built knives and not junk. For a 21 y/o, he has a very impressive collection and he is not scared to use them. He has knives from Buck, Case, Spyderco, Benchmade, ESEE, Al Mar, Chris Reeve, Mike Snody, William and Henry. He already had an early Sebenza and then placed an order this morning with CRK for a small, left hand, Sebenza 21 with the Insingo blade and micarta inlays.

I placed the order in early March and it was finished mid May. They were not able to have it in time for his graduation on May 10th so Heather helped me set it up so he could get it at the Blade show. When we got to the CRK booth on Friday, Heather went to the other end and slipped his knife into the show case and let him "find" it. He was bent over looking, raised up and said there is one with the NCSU logo. When she pulled it out, I told him congratulations.

Since the school logo is traded marked, I had to get in touch with the director of trademarks and licensing to get permission to use it. He first told me that they did not allow the logo to be used on firearms, knives, alcohol and flasks. When I explained to him what I was doing, he said he was willing to allow an exemption as long it was not some big Rambo knife. After he saw the Sebenza, he sent a letter to CRK allowing them to use the logo without a fee and offered them what ever file type they needed to produce the logo.

Again, kudos to Heather. She was great to work with.

That is awesome! A gradation gift that will last a life time:thumbup: we'll planned by you and CRK, I love that they helped you get that accomplished!

I can't believe the university allowed it, but I'm glad they did. That's an awesome gift.

I was showing some Reeve knives to my mom and dad when Heather scooted us to the side so your son could find his knife. I do not know you but the look on his face was worth everything to you I bet. That was a very nice gesture! A great reward to a job well done.
Nathan.

Great gift, and congratulations to your son. I would love to see some cloe-ups of the engraving.

I was surprised as well. Within 2 days of contacting the school, I had the approval and letter to CRK. They probably would not have given permission if I was to have had multiples done.

I printed the letter out from the director of trademarks and licensing, on card stock paper and put it in a document frame for my son also. That way if any one tried to say that it was illegally done, he can show them proof.

If I was a better photographer, I would get some more detailed pictures of the logo. But right now I cannot get any pictures as he is back at school with his knife. I did get to hold it once, for a few seconds.

When he got the 25 he took his regular Sebenza out of his pocket and put it in the box for the 25. He said he will probably retire it to the safe now. He has been carrying it for about 6 years.

Thank you for making room and allowing him to "find" the knife. My wife and daughter go with us to Atlanta to go shopping, as they have no interest in knives, and a vendor friend of my cousin went out to the lobby and brought them in so they could see him find his knife. The few minutes they were there, my wife bought one of the Old Yankee cutting boards that were at the CRK booth and several Cutco knives. I'm glad she is not interested in attending the Blade show because I could not afford for her to spent a couple days there.
