I got in touch with Heather at CRK and she helped me through the entire process. She was excellent to deal with and really helped me get it done. I was not familiar with the various finishes, so I left it up to Heather and the machinist to determine which looked the best. His graduation date is on the back side.
He completed his BS degree with a 4.0, was a valedictorian, and has already started doing research for his Masters degree. He has been interested in knives from a very early age and I told him early on that I did not have a problem with him having/buying knives, but to save his money and buy quality built knives and not junk. For a 21 y/o, he has a very impressive collection and he is not scared to use them. He has knives from Buck, Case, Spyderco, Benchmade, ESEE, Al Mar, Chris Reeve, Mike Snody, William and Henry. He already had an early Sebenza and then placed an order this morning with CRK for a small, left hand, Sebenza 21 with the Insingo blade and micarta inlays.
I placed the order in early March and it was finished mid May. They were not able to have it in time for his graduation on May 10th so Heather helped me set it up so he could get it at the Blade show. When we got to the CRK booth on Friday, Heather went to the other end and slipped his knife into the show case and let him "find" it. He was bent over looking, raised up and said there is one with the NCSU logo. When she pulled it out, I told him congratulations.
Since the school logo is traded marked, I had to get in touch with the director of trademarks and licensing to get permission to use it. He first told me that they did not allow the logo to be used on firearms, knives, alcohol and flasks. When I explained to him what I was doing, he said he was willing to allow an exemption as long it was not some big Rambo knife. After he saw the Sebenza, he sent a letter to CRK allowing them to use the logo without a fee and offered them what ever file type they needed to produce the logo.
Again, kudos to Heather. She was great to work with.
