Guys, I graduated! Got me one of them educations haha. Graduated with my Mechanical Engineering degree and I am going to buy myself a mini-griptilian to go along with my Mini Barrage. I just cant decide on which one! Been carrying my brothers mini grip (556 with the 154CM) a little bit and it rocks.

Here is the dilema... Do I order the Doug Ritter mini grip with the S30V? I do like the shape of the blade a little more than the regular 556 blade.

Or do I go with the limited edition Mini Grip with the CPM-M4 from GPKnives.com?

If I take advantage of the steels by sharpening at the proper angles, CPM-M4 vs S30V?

I would go for the m4 version for sure! You can get a nice set of scales to dress it up a bit. But since you are about to get a big boy job why not get a nice custom???
In my experience, s30v is not in the same league as m4. M4 holds a better edge for much longer. However, it will corrode in humid or wet conditions. But the m4 on the mini grip is coated so that doesn't matter.

Thanks Ernie! I think I am going to pull the trigger and order this badboy tonight. I do a pretty good job of keeping my blades lubricated and coated (typically just use some remington oil or some Hoppes oil once every other week or so) and I live in the desert, not much humidity.... either way, its got the Cerakote so it isnt gonna matter :)

I am hoping to have access to a 3-axis mill this summer and make some scales of my own :)

I was in the same dilemma right before I ordered the M4 Mini. :)
Gonna get some scales later on. I would def go M4 though. Limited Edition. M4 IS in a league above s30v for sure. It's main drawback is usually rust, which as you said, is solved by Cerakote.

Should be in the mail tomorrow :)

soooooo Here it is, never posted a picture... i love it. Been working, picked up this beauty yesterday... Bradley Cutlery Mayhem Ti and S30V

So far so good, Im slowly getting in the groove of it. Never thought I would say it, but man I miss my engineering classes! It's not the typical "i miss college," I miss learning about cool stuff and geeking out with my buddies. I just need to pick up a few good textbooks....maybe a Kinematics book and a Marine engineering book would be good to start... too bad they are the cost of a good knife haha!

For $7 on amazon, I would highly recommend 507 Mechanical Movements. It's literally just hundreds of drawings of different awesome mechanisms. I'm one year away from my mechanical engineering degree, and I know exactly what your saying about geeking out over "engineering porn"

sweet i will definitely check it out! Have you seen this.... you will dig it.... peddle powered lathe... http://youtu.be/eG9R0q9QJQc
Good for you man, engineering is the way to go. I am definitely looking into the possibility of grad school, as tough as it is, without it, your brain gets bored haha.

what classes are you takin?
