They are spydercos grail! Glassy smooth I have one 2! Lucky for me i got the pre steel insert fluted military!

The steel insert is supposed to help with wear on the lock bar right? I'm not sure why you would rather have one without a steel insert.

It was my grail but now I've got it so.... (I have the regular ti and I have the steel insert on it too, prevents wear that's a good thing)

Without doubts this is the best looking Mily, probably I will get one in 2013

Very nice, did Spyderco change the ano on the latest runs? Seems very uniform and unlike the others where you would see bronze, gold, and purple tones mixed in.

Jill, the whole reason for this expenditure I had yesterday was YOUR FAULT!!! :p That picture whipped me into a frenzy for this knife!!!

Yes. John explained it to me this way - the first two "generations" were both flame (heat) anodized. The first gen had more of a matte finish (likely bead blasted), and the second gen was much more glossy. Due to the flame anodizing process and the fact it was done by hand, no two were alike and there were a lot of color variations.

John went on to explain that they had a lot of the scales warp when they were heated by the flame to the point that they were enough out of tolerance they couldn't be used (Yeah, I'd love to get my hands on THAT scrap pile!!!). So instead, the 3rd and most recent "generation" are being electrically anodized. This yields a solid, uniform coloration based on the voltage (current actually) applied to the parts in the chemical bath. They don't get heated this way, so no part loss due to the process.

Also, fwiw, mine is date coded "IL" which is from this past August.

That's sure a beautiful example of that particular Military SpyderPhreak.

So is that the prize for your 2K post give-away? :p :D

ROTFLMAO!!! You sure are funny Chuck! (no, it is NOT being given away!!!) :p

1) Yes, absolutely! Actually, they always sell firsts other than during the weeknd of the 2nds blem sale they have toward the end of the year.

2) In general, the prices are about what you'll find at some of the better online retailers. I am not going to answer specifically about the c36tifp I got, since I do not know if they would like me posting that, especially due to its extremely limited availability. It was pure dumb luck that they had one for me to buy. In fact, John said he didn't think they'd even sold 10 of them through the factory store as they are usually reserved and snatched up so quickly.
