I got really lucky last week and picked up a NIB SOG Facet from a great member here on the forums.

I hadn't thought about the Facet in some time, but remember drooling over them years back. It was some time around 2010, if I recall corectly, that I first saw the knife. I've been a SOG fan for years and this was the nicest folder I'd ever seen from them, but at the time I made just enough money to stay afloat and could only dream of buying one.

Seeing it in the for sale forum I couldn't throw my money at the seller fast enough. Thankfully it's everything I dreamed it would be. Beautiful fit and finish, great action, centering, lockup, etc. The faceted nickel bolsters and polished san mai blade are pure class.

Are there any grails from years gone by that you've acquired recently or are still hunting? Particularly anything long discontinued like this one.

I think my tastes have changed so much over 10 years that it would be unlikely for me to see something I wanted back then and still want it.

But it's very cool that you found this knife and that it brings you enjoyment.

Awesome old catch and sweet San Mai blade.
Wanted a Lone Wolf Harsey T3 or a 2 Ranger for a long time don’t know if I’ll ever get one but it would be cool. Not saw one for sale in a long time for a decent price that is

Funny, two of my fledgling knife collector "grails" were a SOG Vulcan, and Seal Pup Elite.

Grats on the acquisition!

When they came out, I badly wanted a Bradley Alias 2. It was way more than I’d spent on a knife at the time so just waited on the sidelines. After they were discontinued, I watched for them to come up on secondary market and either didn’t have the funds or wasn’t quick enough.

Recently I had a chance to grab a lightly used one for a good price...and I passed. The knife had built up such an image in my mind as a “poor man’s Sebenza” that somehow I knew I’d be disappointed. I don’t need a “poor man’s Sebenza” as I’m fortunate to have the real thing at this point in my life.

Rather than grab a grail of yesteryear, I let it go. I guess it meant more to me to not damage the imagined status it held in my mind than to add it to my pocket.

Anyway, cool topic. Sometimes a grail is better left as a grail than to become a simple possession.

Waaaay back when, I desperately wanted a Gil Hibben Double Shadow. I had honestly forgotten about it until Spark mentioned Gil during one of the Sunday streams recently. My tastes have changed over the years, and I have no use for fixed blades now, but it was still a dang cool (if useless) knife at the time.

Hd7. Always wanted one and had one sent to me by an excellent BF member for free. I stupidly missed the rerelease of these in 2014 but the new version had better lockup but bearings and standoffs which I did not like.

I have owned this 2004 HD7 for around 2 years now. When I got it the lockup was already almost 100%. (The old HD7s came with stupid late almost 80-90% lockup)

Since then the lock has completely worn out and now there is a tiny space between the bar and tang making a tiny rattle. Still the knife is an Ak47 of knives it may rattle a bit but never fails.

I love it stupid combo edge and rattle and all. Probably still my favourite knife.

The yesteryear grail that pops I to my head is the ZT0777 Damascus version for sure. I had just got into knives a few months after they were all sold and that blade just looked so enticing.

I'm sure it's still very sought after by a lot of members here, but over the years its definitely dropped down my list of wants. But I wouldn't mind owning one one day.

I was a major SOG fanboy. I only have one left, a mini X-ray vision that's beat to hell.

The facet is a knice knife.

I once owned a Brian Tighe Tighe Rod mini. Just slightly too small to grip with my large hands, because of the curved grip. So I sold it.

Ever since I've occasionally looked for a medium. Mine had the fluted BG-42 blade. Brilliant knife.

A few years ago I made a post on knives that you regretted not getting. Mine was a Kershaw Skyline in Damascus, I think the 1st or 2nd reply was telling me they just did another run of them. So that was taken care of, now all that's left is regretting not buying a baby boa back when the prices were reasonable as well as a Queen Country Cousin and a few other Queen knives.

I regret selling my Spyderco Southard. I'd didn't give it the chance it deserved. I often thought about buying another. Then I got sick, had to retire. By the time I was cognizant enough to look at taking the plunge, it was discontinued. Still don't understand why.

So that's another yesteryear knife on my list.

Really well said. I feel like this often, and sometimes pass on something for the same reason.
I still think I'd like a Spyderco Junior though. :)

Spyderco police. All metal,I settled for a all metal worker full serrated, loved it.Laid it on my tool box at work and vanished into thin air.Just saw a new police for over two bills, still a grail

Have 2 that fall into the grail category, for me at least.
My favorite every day carry, Sog Gen I Tomcat with the S M Ca livery
