Grain patterns in circular saw blades?

Well, as expected the new B&D angle grinder performs wonderfully. Before I start slicing up some of these circular saw blades, however it occurred to me that they might have a circular grain pattern. How about it anyone, do I need to cut out my blanks working in a circular direction around the saw blade or can I just slice 'em up any old way. (I suppose I could have sanded the saw blade and etched it to find out for myself but the forum seems like such a better idea!)-Guy T.

This is only my guess, so I'd get a second opinion. But I'm pretty sure that most blades are stamped out of sheet metal then surface ground flat.So the grain structure shouldn't have any real definite direction.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Thanks Matt, that's exactly how I figured they were made also. I'm hoping one of the guys that use these saw blades will put their 2 cents worth in!-Guy T.

Silent,

I was surprised to see you using an angle grinder to cut out blanks. Sounds about right, does it do a decent job?

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!

Hey Tangus, I haven't used the angle grinder to cut out blanks, per se. The thin (1/16") cut off discs for the angle grinder only let you cut in a staight line, so I am going to use it to cut these saw blades up into more useable pieces/strips. It makes short work of the saw blade steel! I'll try to use it to get as close to my profile as possible, then clean it up on a bench grinder or with grinding disc on the angle grinder. That's the theory anyway!-Guy T.
