I just visited my grandfather and as far back as I can remember he has carried the same pocket knife, He finally let me hold the knife today, (first time ever might I add), He dropped it and broke the handle and asked me if I knew where he could get it fixed, It's a boker but it says USA under the boker, anyone know about the warranty on this knife? I offered to buy or give him a new case knife again ,but he said no, He wants this knife fixed, I doubt the warranty is any good but any ideas of where I could get a new handle put on it for him? Possibly get it rebladed too? I would greatly appreciate it. I realize the knife is probably not worth anything as far as money goes, but the sentimental value it's priceless in his eyes, I would love to get it redone and give it back to my grandfather, If anyone has any ideas let me know. Mods If this is in the wrong place Apologies and move it to where ever.

One thing to note, he may want a new handle, but the blades may provide memories for him of the life of the knife. You might want to get the handles fixed, and get a similar Boker for him, German made. Or try the Bay or here for a similar pattern.

This is not a knife you want to risk. I recommend sending it USPS Registered Insured Mail both ways.

Registered mail is called accountable mail. Registered mail packages are always the personal responsibility of a USPS employee, with signatures required at every step.

Please don't replace the blades without your Grandfather's permission.

I agree I wouldn't touch the blades that's what makes the knife meaningful replace the scale and then leave it Im sure there are lots of great designs you can look at to get him a new user

+ however many on leaving the blades as is. After getting the scales replaced, you might take some Flitz or Semichrome and polish out the blades for him. Boker is probably your best bet on getting the scales replaced with like scales and a professional job done in a prompt time frame.

To jeffwithaj, it hasn't been that many years ago when the term "my knife" was the usual and customary way to describe what you had in your pocket, not hanging from your pocket.

Blessings,

Omar

I would never get the blades replaced without his permission, I'm just shocked he actually asked me if i would look into getting it fixed for him, I would pay whatever they wanna charge to get it fixed for him, I have bought about 5 slip joints for him trying to replace that knife , well the new ones are sitting in my drawer as he said thanks, but I've got a knife. I do believe those are the original hard use knives lol, I've seen him pry with that knife, used as a screwdriver, you name it it's done it, And It would fail a spine whack test !

When in doubt, don't.

If you Grandfather wants his blades polished, he knows how to polish them.

Nobody knows how to put that patina back.

If it leaves to go anywhere it will go UPS or Fedex Nothing against the post office , but he would probably never speak to me again if I got his knife lost for him. Seriously

I gave him some Flitz earlier We'll see if it gets used, matter of fact I'm going to call him real quick and see....

Nope he said I could come back and get the polish, He wants the handle fixed only...lol

Lol. I don't blame him for not wanting the blades polished.
That's awesome. It's great to see knives like that, ones that have been used for probably 20+ years. It's actually not in that bad of shape.
I know Seals(Don) on here used to do scales(I haven't seen him on here in forever) for slipjoints and SAK's.
Look into the people on the forum who make scales, I'm sure someone can do it.
Maybe ask if he wants a different handle material out of like wood or carbon fiber.

Good luck with getting it fixed.
