My grandfather was a pilot in WWII and I'm lucky enough to have several of his wonderful old pocket knives and a TON of his old photos... he ended up travelling all over the world and he took tons and tons of photos and I'm sure he had some of these knives in his pocket on his travels.

Knives from top left going clockwise:

Camillus 14

Primble 5371

Buck 301

Case can't read the tang stamp anymore

That’s really cool.
Have you thought about putting a shadow box together?
True, it would make the knives less accessible, but it would seem a fitting tribute and make an even more amazing heirloom.

Regardless, thanks for sharing. The same goes for you, Modoc ED Modoc ED !

I have thought about that actually! Just haven't gotten around to it. I'm sort of a hobbyist woodworker so I keep telling myself I'm going to build one but then I get myself lost in the weeds with all kinds of different ideas for it and then I never settle on one lol. Think I just need to sit down and do it.

Fantastic memorys.
What planes did he fly, where was he based?

more photos please.

My mother’s father served in the Spanish-American War. I don’t have his knife.
Dad’s father was too old for WWI and WW II. Don’t have his knife. He was a “trader” and never kept a knife long enough to really call it his.
I have his father’s knife.7B5D4C18-EA4E-4443-9CE0-28BD38F6F08D.jpeg9E633538-AC31-482C-B6E0-989D8686B646.jpeg
Great grandad’s
My father joined the Army Air Corps in 1936. Retired as a Major after 22.5 years. Kept the big bombers in the air, B-17s, B-29s, B-36s, B-52s. Florida, England and Alaska during WW II;Japan during the Korean conflict.
I was a SAC kid, but never served. Thanks to all who did!

He flew a B-25J I think it was? I can't remember where he was based at the moment but he has photos from his service in the middle east, in Japan, and some other Asian countries.

Here is a scan of that one photo of him next to one of the planes he flew.

Here he is (on the left) and the back of the photo says "Bombed out Osaka"

This one he took from his plane and the back says "Flying back from Roosevelt's funeral."

And this one may be my favorite: a self portrait from training.

Here he is leaning on a sweet old Jeep.

I have tons more but can't figure out where the heck I saved the scans at the moment.

We also have a bunch of old maps that appear to maybe be bombing runs with targets and coordinate info on them.
