Grandpas knife

First off this isnt a sad story so it will be short. I need some advice. About a year ago I found my grandfathers old Kabar 1152 scout knife. I asked my aunt if I could have it and it has been in my pocket since. That is until about a month ago. I noticed when I close the blade the tip of it is above the liners . I ordered an opinel #10 but its not what im looking for. My questions to all of you is should I regrind the blade or buy a new SAK?

The "kick" needs to be lowered...that's the little nub on the bottom of the blade by the piviot....it's causing the blade to sert too high.

It sounds as if the problem just showed up. If that's the case, did you recently sharpen it? Eventually sharpening will cause the point to stick out. Then do what SAK Guy says. Don't grind the blade, grind the kick.

However, it's also possible that pocket lint or some other crud is blocking the blade. Clean the blade slot thoroughly and oil the joint before doing anything else.

Buying a SAK is a good idea, both to protect your grandfather's knife when you might be doing something abusive, and because buying a SAK is always a good idea.

It's an easy fix. When you file the kick down do it VERY SLOWLY and check frequently as you remove material. It only takes a VERY TINY AMOUNT to lower the blade.

Personally I use my wife's old emory board (the one she uses on her nails). It has a rough side and a fine side. I use this to avoid the possibility of taking off too much material. Go slowly and check by closing the blade frequently to see how much progress you've made.

thanks for the advice! tonight when i get home from work ill dig out some picks and brushes and clean it out real well. never thought about (or knew what it was called) filing down the "kick". I believe its just been sharpened so much it has raised the point up. i guess i got used to carrying it and never noticed till i tried replacing it and ended up coming back to it. such a nice knife
