My last living grandparent recently died. Knowing that I'm a knife collector and user, my dad decided that I should take possession of Grandpa's pocket knife. He carried this knife for as long as I can remember, and, from the looks of it, it was well cared for and sharpened quite a lot too. The main blade is stamped "OLSEN KNIFE CO" on one side and "SOLINGEN GERMANY" on the other. The main blade opens easy enough, but the two smaller blades are quite the nail benders.

This is one knife I'll cherish always and will probably even continue to carry it on occasion. :)

That's totally awesome and what a great keepsake! It's in very good condition and was well used/carried. Thanks for sharing. Great pics!

Condolences on your loss.

You gotta love that knife, though! After my grandpa passed I got his Case 06244 and I cherish it very much. I keep it on my desk to open mail as I'd be crushed if I ever lost it. Occasionally it's been carried though, just to keep it active. It's so nice to have such a keepsake. Hold onto that, it's one of the few truly irreplaceable knives.

Your Grandfather will always be with you in your memories.
You should carry it with you on special occasions as I would think it would have been in his pocket also.

Keep it always as a keepsake and think about your grandpa when you carry it. It's a good knife, too.

that's great. I have a few of my granddad's pocket knives and they are true heirlooms. I can remember him sitting in his recliner in the evenings watching the news and sharpening his blades with whetstones he kept on the fireplace hearth. great memories.

My uncle has my pawpaws Barlow. He carries it everyday, I hope one day his grandson will have it and appreciate it.

Well, I guess it's time to share a story...sad start, but my great grandfather passed December 14th, 2011. Me, my dad, and my grandpa are sitting in the living room and watching TV, my grandpa in his own chair of course, me and my dad on the couch beside his chair. He passed my dad a knife and said it belonged to my great grandfather, it has an odd blade. Neither me nor my dad could figure out what it's for, my dad tried looking it up without any luck, and we finally asked my grandpa...and..um..after that "this is just too funny" snicker, he told us. it was for castrating roosters. needless to say we all shared a good laugh, my grandpa still has that knife, it's in his ammo cabinet.

cherish both the knife and the memories of your grandfather, I'm sorry to hear about his passing by the way, my condolences.

Cheers to our grandfathers,
Kirby

My condolences on your loss. You have a very nice keepsake by which to remember him.

Also, in my estimation your grandpa had quite the eye for quality. I have an identical stockman, a Solingen pattern but sold under a different name (York cutlery.) If I am correct then your grandpa carried one of the very few serpentine round-bolstered stockman patterns with half-stops (a personal favorite combination) that also packs some of the best blade ratio in the main clip I've come across.

Sorry for your loss. That's a beautiful knife.

As Jack said - very sorry for you loosing your Grandad.
Olsen made some very nice knives, and its hard finding a nice slipjoint made by Olsen, I have owned several Olsen fixed blades - still have a beautiful Clip-point by Olsen - 13 inches.

Condolences on your loss Shawn,

Beautiful knife though.. what is the overall size of it? Is that bone or synthetic handles?

Vege-Taco, nice to have that knife for all the memories it should hold for you. I have an Olsen that has the same handle and shield. My clip point blade has heavily stamped "Premium Stock Knife", and where you have a spey blade, mine has an awl, and the spey blade is where your sheeps foot blade is. I looked for a long time for that Olsen folder, saw a lot of fixed blades, but only one Olsen. Ironically, I did find another folder just like yours, same scales, bolster, shield and blades, also marked Solingen, but with a brand name of "Edge". John
