Well, thanks for the info on the Amboyna stabilization. I ended up not stabilizing the scales.

Here is my Grandpa's X-mas gift. I patterned it after the Schrade Sharp Finger. I modified the blade shape a bit and made it a bit bigger. Here are the specs:

Blade: 3.75
Over all Length: 7.5
Blade Material: Single Star Twist damascus, 153 layers of 1095 and 15N20
Blade Thickness: 0.15
Tang: Full, Tapered
Pins: Mosaic
Handle: Amboyna Burl with Danish oil finish
Weight: 4 oz.

Let me know what you all think, all that is left to do is make the sheath and remember not to screw up drilling the holes in the scales next time :)

What a wonderfull gift for your grandfather! I think he will be overwhelmed. Beautiful knife! That amboynia burl is something else, the perfect companion for that damascus!

Very nice looking total package!
That is one sweet lookin' piece of Amboyna Burl too.
Your Grandpa's socks are gonna be knocked off when he opens this gift.:D

7mm, What a perfect gift for your Grandfather!! Being a grandfather myself I can tell you that grandkids hold a special place in our lives. He is a lucky man.

Very nice! I like the larger version of it. Everything works well together, thanks for sharing.

Very nice, i think the pins in the handle really stand out, in a good way :D And i really like the pattern, especially the way the star is in the center of the handle part. I am sure he will cherish it a lot. :)
