Hello,

My name is Wesley Preston and I’m Rusty Preston’s oldest grandson (Preston Custom Knives out of Port Isabel Texas)

I grew up watching my grandfather build knives by hand and pour himself into every detail. Over time I’ve come to realize just how much of himself went into that work, and after many conversations with him lately I’ve made it my goal to put some of that craftsmanship back into his hands.

I’m currently trying to track down and buy back as many of his knives as I can. My goal is to surprise him with a collection that represents his work over the years and gives him the chance to see it all in one place again.

If anyone here owns one of his knives or knows someone who does I would be very grateful to connect.

Wes, I've had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with your grandfather a few times at Blade Shows, and own two of his stock knives. One he sent to me after a show some years back, and one I bought from a purveyor prior to having met him.

I'm not sure I'd like to let them go, but I understand the quest and I'd be willing to at least discuss it with you via DM. I'm not sure if I can remember anyone else offhand who owns any.

Thread 'Rusty Preston: Stag Stockman (A Maker To Watch)'

Over the past several months I've been seeing knives by Rusty Preston showing up on the websites of various purveyors and liked most of what I saw though I didn't see the one.

I learned via the internet grapevine that Rusty cut his teeth as a knifemaker under the excellent tutelage of Bill Ruple, who, like Tony Bose, has been a great help and inspiration to the makers coming up after him.

At the Blade Show I stopped by Bill's table at breakfast and asked him if he had knives available for the show. He told me had and said I should come see him. Naturally, I got sidetracked...
