Here is my grandson Austin working on his sister's knife. He has been wanting to help so it is at the stage were he can sit down and have some fun. He is 5 years old and night just have the knife bug already. I know I had it by 5. Though his attention span was not very long I think he had fun. he plays around the shop most of the day. He does that frequently. Now his sister is interested too and it is actually her knife., I just need to get a pic of her. They do need a lot of help to finish though.

Yah I know my shop is trashed. Just gets that way sometimes:D

Getting your grandson involed is great!

Yah I know my shop is trashed. Just gets that way sometimes

When my shop gets a little trashed I say to myself "I should clean the place up......but that would take away time that I could spend making another knife:)"

Yup, my son just graduated from Hippie U, Humboldt State University, in northern ca. My grandkids both got tie dye hoodies.

Why clean it is just going to get messed up all over again. I do clean but when I get going on a project I just drop and go.

Very cool:thumbup: He looks like he's enjoying it. Maybe he'll find his passion early on in life:D

That second pic is truly priceless, especially with the dog in the background

Well done Chuck!

very cool! My shop looks as cluttered as yours does! I get mine truly cleaned up about once per year it seems and then a a tornado (me) strikes... lol!

That's great, I can't wait to get my kids working in the shop.
I got my kids safety glasses and got them used to the idea of wearing them when they are in the shop. They are not allowed in the shop without them. They are at the right height that they could accidentally walk into something hanging off of the edge of the bench.

Excellent !!
I spent most of my childhood working alongside my grandfather on his farm.
That child will reap lifelong benefits from it !
I would not be the man I am today if it was not for his firm yet patient hand to guide me. He's 92 now and I live 200 yds from him. I still learn from him on a daily basis.

I am glad that they are so close, though it can be trying at time as I am the primary daycare provider. I wish my grandfather was closer or at least spent more time with me. Unfortunately he was overseas much of my childhood and only saw him 2 or three times before I became a teenager. Then I only saw him a hand-full of times after. My other grandfather died before I was born so I never knew him. I hope to have a much closer relationship with my grandchildren and Knife-making will be a part of it.
