Hi BF,

I bought this axe at a thrift store. The logo looks like a Gransfors Bruk logo but the axe head shape is straight...no lip/lug like in Gransfors Bruk axes. If it is GB then do you think the handle is original? Is it an old axe? Thanks in advance! ~OG

Just a pre 1985 Gransfors Bruks. Not all GB axes have lugs /ears, and I'm not even sure if those patterns were imported then either. Handle looks like its possibly original.

Thank you very much for the detailed information and explanation. Much appreciated! ~OG

I don't know who originated the 'Montreal' pattern axe head (like your's) but the Swedes made and exported their renditions of it. With the head still having the original blue colour it's likely the handle is also the original. From the 1950s through the 70s Swedish, Austrian and German axes were inexpensive compared to domestic-made axes. Weight of export heads tend to be stamped in both metric and Imperial.

Thank you for the info! So this is called the Montreal pattern. Nice to know. Much appreciated. Thanks ~OG
