Finally took rhe plunge and got three from GB. Scandinavian Forest Axe, Wildlife Hatchet, and a Mini. Wow....! Been foolin around learnin the Mini, (as it takes some getting used to), and I ain't goin in the woods or on a trip anywhere without it close by. What a perfectly neat little tool.
Question for you expienced, long time Axe usin folks?
The Wildlife Hatchet handle, where it extends slightly from the top of the head has the steel wedge driven into the top at an angle to help keep the head tight. At three corners of the wedge are small cracks radiating out to the the handle sides down to the top edge of the axe head. Obviouly caused by the wedge being driven in. They are not separated. Just hairline cracks. Not so on the SF Axe's wedge. It's handle top is solid all around It's wedge.
Have any of you seen this on any 'NEW" GB's you have received, and if so has it caused any kind of handle problem down the road with use?
Hows this for customer service? I called GB and they wouldn't offer any info on the cracks causing a problem, but if one arises they instructed me to just send it to them and a "BRAND NEW AXE" would be supplied. No repairs. A brand new axe.
Can't argue with that, but if any of you have experienced a worsening problem due to the cracks I'd just like to know what happened.
Thanks all
