Anybody have any experience with either of these models?
Here are some links to a site with some good pics:

the "Dakota"

the "Gothem"

They both looked like fun. The Dakota just begs for taking on a hike. And the Gothem, well it would be great to have hanging up when your daughter's date arrives.:D Reminiscient of that scene from Uncle Buck.
I think I'll figure out the shipping to the U.S., then I'll beg for permission from the Mrs. "But we really needthem,honey...";)

Edit: trying to get the links to work.

I like the Dakota:

It's like one of the early trade axes only it's probably got much harder steel. You might not want to be throwing one - but it'd probably be good for camp work.
The Gothem is a woodworking axe.

Thanks for posting the pic, Jimbo.
The Highland Hardware site has a quick blurb on the Gothem, only it is simply called a Bearded Axe.
This striking axe is forged only by Lars Enander, the senior smith at Gransfors Bruks. Based on an authentic 1000 year old Viking design, it's recommended for paring, shaping, joinery and finishing work (not to mention looting & pillaging), but not for heavy chopping. The uniquely slender head is over 9" long, with 5-3/4" curved face. Straigh hickory handle is 30" long. Total weight is 3.4 lbs. Sold without a sheath.

I wouldn't throw the Dakota either for a couple reasons. A:
I stink at throwing. B: Handle replacement could be problematic even if the head could take it. There are many other good throwers out there that can be easily replaced/repaired. But, put a rawhide wrap on the Dakota, and get a nice sheath for it, and you have a sweet outdoors tool.

The Gothem:

You just had to show me a really neat woodworking axe that I'd really like. From looking at the design I'd say it would be some tool to use - as are all of the GB's..
Anyway I haven't bothered much with hawks because I'm too busy chopping - but now I've seen that Dakota...
