Getting the last of my gear ready for some backpacking this summer

Looking for something lightweight and dependable
Narrowing it down to the Gransfors outdoor axe vs the Gransfors wildlife hatchet..

Anyone have experience with both.? Preferences?

Thanks in advance

I have owned both...i still own the wildlife hatchet. The Outdoor axe is lighter with a longer straighter handle. the Wildlife hatchet it a more traditional hatchet. Weighs about a 1/3 LB more than the outdoor axe with about an inch shorter handle. either will serve you well...just get the one you think you'll like best. you can always get the other one later if you think you made the wrong choice, however I'm pretty confident you will be happy with the one you choose.

I have the Wildlife Hatchet. Its a wicked sharp little hatchet and is very handy for campsite construction, carving, and fire prep. I can't imagine taking it along backpacking though. Its a pretty small hatchet, but its no lightweight.

If needed I would bring a Bahco Laplander folding saw in place of the hatchet. It would save you over half a pound and still be able to process wood for fire making.
