Gransfors Bruks SFA handle

I could live happily ever after with that axe if it doesn't make you smile!

Thank you for reply. Just thinking that grain isn’t too good at all,but if you think it’s ok than I’m fine :)

If axe handles had to be 100% flawless in order to work well, we wouldn't have ever been able to invent them in the first place. That grain looks quite good, though the rings aren't uniform. If you ever break that handle it's probably not the wood's fault. ;)

Most folks' eyes would 'light right up' to come across a handle such as that. The grain is perfect (parallel with the blade) for a handle that is curved even though it develops a slight twist going down the length. The parent tree was growing under crowded or shaded conditions (narrow growth rings) and then found itself in sunnier circumstances when trees around it blew down or were cut down (wide rings). It's interesting that the wedge is the same material (looks to be Hickory) as the handle. Whoever conducted this hang was competent enough to leave it 'proud' (ie sticking out) and not to bother whacking in a metal conical or cross wedge such as we often see on factory jobs.
You've got yourself a first class chopping tool! Make sure the end wood is thoroughly soaked/sealed in some sort of oil before you start swinging it. Have fun!
