Hhi , this is my first post on the forum.

I bought myself a gransfors bruks small forest ax 1 month ago , i played with it in the backyard and it think it's awesome but i took it in the wood for the first time, swing it on a small branch and 15 sec later, looked at the cutting edge to see if there was resin or anything on it and BAMMM the fucking edge is destroyed. To give you an idea of the damage , imagine it was very soft and you strapped it on a steel rod on 1 side only, it was bend. I sharpened it for 35 min, can't get the blade back , can't get it sharp like it was and i'm so fucking mad , I had cut 6" stuff with it and it was awesome, best ax i ever owned. Is it my fault or the ax had a problem ? a 125$ axe should be able to cut A FUC*** branch. Should i email gransfors ? thank for any advice. That axe was perfect , i had oiled the shaft , waxed the head, polised the leather, a real piece or art but now it's done.

Its an axe, and the damage looks very minor. Start with a file, then switch to a stone.

As far as the problem, avoid the base of branches. The knots tend to chip / roll the edge, especially if they're dry. Oh, warm up the axe too if its cold.

Is that a hemlock? Frozen hemlock knots will chip any blade. I've seen them eat a Tuatahi working axe. Your damage is minor. File out the chip, convex the edge, and put it back to work.

i have a similar problem with my Swedish Wetterlings axe it gets small chips whenever i chop with it.

That happened with my GB small forest axe. I sent it back to them and they sent me a new one.

thanks for your replies, i think i will send it back to them , I never reshaped a convex blade and for a axe that expansive i shouldn't have to do it after a small cut like that.

That is nothing. Crazy Otter and Trail Time gave you sound advice. I am surprised it rolled and did not chip. GB's I have owned would chip first. Your axe is not ruined. Extra care is needed when temperatures drop. I would just get a file and chalk it up to experience. Been there and done that, only my bit broke half moon nickel size chips out of the bit.

Whenever a problem like this happens its best to contact the company first and they will normally help you out with advice on what you can do or, if the damage is severe they usually take it back.

Also, this forum is open for all to see and while it is obvious you are upset, you should temper that with the understanding that kids and spouses read this and your language is pretty harsh. Especially when you consider that, as several people have said, that really isn't that much damage. If you use an axe you will have chips, rolls and for sure you will have to maintain your convex edge. Resharpening and repairing damage are part of using an axe (or any edge weapon/tool) so it is something you have to get used to. I hope you get a replacement and get back out in the woods soon!

Just want to say sorry for my harsh language, i was mad since i had to re-type this post 2 time haha, i worked a bit more on the edge and its not that bad for an axe... i think i will keep it and it will dissapear has i sharpen it. Thx all :D
