I got this as an anniversary gift. I can't tell you how impressed I am with it. Simply the finest axe I've ever had in my hands. Razor sharp, comfortable handle and great size for camping. It's big enough that you could fell a tree, but small enough to do kindling with. Just buy one and you'll see!

I've actually been looking into getting one of the SFAs myself. Does it pack well?

It packs very well. I've had mine for years and pack it much more often then my Wetterlings Hunter's Hatchet (smaller) and Council Tool Hudson Bay (larger).
I use it to section logs that are usually 6"-8" in diameter for the campfire as well as other camp tasks. On my last trip I had to dispatch a raccoon that was dragging our gear into the swamp throughout the night (he got two warnings). It works well for all tasks.

^^^ Ha! Don't mess with Macchina or his gear !! :p

Yup. Packs great and is woods beast when needed. It's that sweet spot for me size, weight, and usefulness.

My Small Forest Axe and Wild Life Hatchet arrived last week. I got the SFA for camping and bushcraft type stuff, I wanted to replace my Gerber/Fiskers camp axe which has a 18" haft. It did fine for its needed purpose, but I wanted to try a more refined axe. I used to have a Gransfors Hunters Axe and loved it, but I had a close friend that really wanted it and I gifted it to him a few years back. The straighter haft didn't lend itself well to hard chopping if needed. The SFA has a better shaped haft for chopping.

I figured I wanted to try some spoon carving so I also ordered a Wildlife Hatchet at the same time as the two spoon knives and SFA and I love that small hatchet. I haven't really used it yet as I just had shoulder surgery 10 days ago, but from my initial feeling in hand I think it's gonna be a winner as a spoon carver. I won't use it for much else as I like a large knife for battoning and have better control that way over using a small axe. This is just my opinion, YMMV.

After having Gransfors Bruks products in hand again I remember why I loved them in the past. I'm glad to see their quality is as solid as I remember.

I've only used mine camping, so I didn't have to pack it, but it's definitely small enough to fade into my hiking purposes. I have very young children and haven't been able to do much hiking and backpacking in a few years, but would like to get back to it soon. I just like high quality products and this is one of the best I've owned. Buy quality, but once.

One of the best purchases I've made for sure. I can use it one handed to split wood or sharpen stakes or with two hands and half swings it becomes a powerful and fast wood chopping demon. The combination of head size balance and handle length makes this one very versatile axe. While I haven't packed mine I wouldn't have any problem doing so if needed. Get one!

Sweet axe indeed, I have one myself. But you can walk into a Husqvarna dealership and order their Husky general purpose axe for half the price. A light axe for its slightly bigger size. I find the small forest to be closer to a hatchet than a full size axe. Still possibly the best size, weight, utility compromise out there though.
