Do all the Wetterling's mini's have those skewed bits? That is also a pretty heavy bit for such a small axe.

This is the first one that I have seen. Not many of them here in UK..... yet.... and this one belongs to a friend. I was told the edge grind was uneven and thicker with secondary grind. He had to spent a lot of time to get it to this decent edge.

All the edges are sharp and the surface finish is not from the forge but ground on a belt. The handle came varnished and there's two small knots in it. No where near as good a finish as the Gransfors.

But it does have a bigger eye and and more gradual ramp then the Gransfors. The biggest plus is that it's only 1/3 the price... or less.

The Wetterlings small hunter I bought does not have a varnish it has a very nice finish. No knots or anything, not sure if that's just mine but it is a very nice axe for the money.

I Have the weterlings large hunter, And the only thing I found wrong was that the handle was a little crooked(very very small amount, doesn't effect performance) and it wasn't sharp when I bought it. With a little love It was extremly sharp, push cut paper and everything, but not shaving.

Those Swedes can sure forge an axe , I have three gransfors and a wetterlings between camp and home, I sure like my newer version of the wildlife hatchet , it's the only one I keep in the house with my hunting gear.

Cliff,

Do you mean the way the bit itself turns down or the way it kind of looks cocked on the handle esp. in that first pic?

I'd love to try one of those.

Sometimes the way the head is resting (i.e. on a slightly uneven poll) and camera angle can make a bit seem more skewed than it really is.
Do you think that one really looks that bad? I think it looks pretty decent, but I do not have a great eye for such things.

I just check the axe again. It must be the camera. I adjusted the GB but not the Wetterling. Sorry about that.

The head is straight.

For general wood working yes, a tanget to the middle of the bit should run parallel to the handle. This is necessary for maximum efficiency in cut track alignment in chopping, as well as general handling in carving.

Yes, it isn't great either. In fact all of the three Bruks's I have used had issues with head alignment, but the above is more of a shape issue.

I have a granfors mini where can I get a wetterlings? I cant't find this model listed anywhere and how much should I pay?

This one was bought off an evil bay seller from US. Can't remember how much but I do know he is still selling them there. Good luck.

Just wanted to comment on Ragnors shop. I bought there a month or so ago and he had excellent service. The shipping was fast and at a reasonable price, and the products I was satisfied with.

Never ever heard any bad stuff about Ragnar's shop, while you are there you will want to check out the double bit marble for 35$.
