There are some cool knives over at http://www.gransslojd.com/ and I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the paticulars of the blade material, its edge (convex ect.). I was originaly thinking about getting a Fallkniven F1 for my 21st birthday but I saw these and I would really prefer the look of the Granskniv 77mm. But I like teh convex edge on the F1 and can't tell if the ones at http://www.gransslojd.com/ have a convex edge.

Any help is appreciated.

They looked to have the scandinavian "zero grind" edge, not a convex edge. This type of edge is flat ground along the entire bevel all the way to the edge. It is not as strong as a convex grind, but it is sharper for an equivalent geometry. For example if you had two blades of the same thickness and the same length of primary bevel the final edge angle will be lower with a scandianavian flat grind. On the other hand if the grind is longer (goes up closer to the spine) on the convex ground blade it may be sharper.

I don't like scandinavian grinds much since they are usually based on rather narrow saber grinds. I would rather have the whole width of the blade ground or have a hollow ground blade.

Coming back to the original question, I could give the standard Bladeforums answer: Get Them Both! :D

You might eventually like to do that. But for now, get the F1 and you will have a fine knife to work with until you get a chance to think about others later on. There is no end to great Scandinavian knives ...

the handles are made of reindeerantlers and silver-birch. the blades are made of very high quality carbonsteel. you can get get all knives with handforged blades, contact for price.

the also seem to make custom stuff if you want
