Has anyone seen or tried the Grant Hawk DOG Lock? Read about it in BLADE MAGAZINE, but would like someone else's opinion. Thanks.

I've kinda wondered too about this knife. If I remenber correctly Gerber told Grant to go ahead and make
this knife as the numbers he would make posed no threat to them and the patent on the bolt action they
held. I've seen two of his knives and liked them both but......I just can't afford either one. Darn! Nice
lookers though.

Tangstamp, Hate to say it mate, but it looks like Grant produced a Reeeeeeeeeeelly small number of these
knives. From the lack of response you've gotten I wonder if he made any other than the one "Blade"
reviewed.

I guess. Darned good looking knife anyway. I may throw caution to the wind on this one. Thanks for the input.

I saw one of his folders at the N.Y.show a little after it came out in the magazine.A.G Russell had a prototype at his table.Paul Basch showed it to me.It looked like it was the same as the bolt lock.He was asking more money cause it was a prototype,I think it was $550 but I'm not sure.Anyway it was a nice knife, not as smooth as the axix lock.I did'nt care for the orange handle slabs.I think Blade magazine said the regular model went for $400 or $450 ? I think its a little overpriced for an aluminium handle and micarta or G10 slab. The folder feeled like it would make a solid working knife.
When I read the article I was surprised that a custom maker never heard of the Gerber Bolt Lock. But I give Grant Hawk credit for making his custom version.

Thanks for the good info. I really like what I've seen of this knife. It'll be the most expensive knife I've ever bought, but it seems solid and unique enough to make it interesting. I just don't want another linerlock. This one is ambidexterous and good looking. I just wanted to see if anyone had any hands-on experience with it. Thanks again!

Tangstamp, if you do happen to buy one, post something about it. I haven't ever had a chance to see one outside of the Blade article and asked about it a couple of months ago on the Forums with much the same result as you have gotten. I'd definately be interested in hearing something from someone about one, as the basic lock premise is argueably as solid as an Axis or Arc lock system properly implemented.

I have been wanting one of these knives since the article came out. I keep that magazine right here on my desk all the time and look at that article alot. I posted on the wanted forums awhile back and never got a response. I guess they are hard to find. Please let us know if you find a source for these. They are some cool looking knives, and I even like the orange scales. Take care.

Grant and his dad were at the table next to the Bybee's (who I went with) at Oregon. The lock is VERY cool and they are totally nice guys. I would have bought one, but I will agree that I wasn't willing to pay for an aluminum knife with G10 scales. We highly encouraged them to start making it with titanium and more premium scale materials - although the machining would be rather difficult.
