I threw together a review of Hawk Design's toad folder; an amazing piece of work, which my review does no justice. Sleepiness-induced poor grammar and sloppy format aside, I think it gets the point accross. Anyway, some of my pictures turned out okay (for me anyway)!

Excellent review of the "Toad !" I've been watching their work (Hawks) and it's amazing. Kinda shocked that their knives haven't taken off like a rocket !

I know that the "Toad" has an OAL of 8" (3.5" blade). . .can you tell us what the handle width is at the pivot and the aft portion of the scales ?

Not sure which one that I like the best. . ."Toad" or "D.O.G." :D

Thanks for sharing ! :)

Thanks, GigOne. I knew I forgot something- specs! Anyway, I can't measure the handle dimmensions right now, as it's already packaged up to be sent back for the clip tune-up. They tell me it will return in a couple days, so I'll let you know then.

I am shocked that they haven't taken off too! I'm willing to bet they will be very hot soon though. They just haven't gotten much exposure yet. See how nice I am to help in my own little way?? :):D

I take it you're saying that there is a Spyderco Toad? You know, I've seen 4 different knives called "Mako"? Then again, I think those were all custom makers' knives. Hell, 2 of my Dervish Knives designs share names with other makers (not sure who came first, but I'm sure they weren't coping me and I KNOW I didn't copy them). Then again, a company like Spyderco may try to protect one of its names.

Haven't handled a Toad myself, but it sure looks like it's too big and fat for my money no matter what it has to offer, maybe i will change my mind after handling one, but i doubt it. I looks very well made and it is different, just wish it was more hand and pocket friendly.

Yeah, it definitely is a beefy folder -I'd say it's similar to the MT LCC- this is exactly why it appealed to me. I've had a few slim folders like the Sebenza, various Spydercos and Benchmades but I much prefer hefty, stout folders. This is not a knife for people who like skinny knives...

very cool indeed...I was contemplating the D.O.G., but was ultimately put off only b/c it seemed too "engineered"...I was fearful of getting grit etc into it and mucking up such fine craftsmanship...at least liner locks and framelocks can be rinsed out in a hurry.

I will probably get the CRKT version to beat on and use:cool:
