The world of smithing has truly and deeply lost a wonderful member last night. Grant Sarver has passed away. It is with INCREDIBLE sadness that I relate this news to you.

Wow! That's a huge loss. He will surely be missed. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Unbelievable! I was just on a thread yesterday (?) talking to him - no hints that anything might have been wrong. I can't think of anything that Grant didn't have solid information on. He was a trusted resource, a talented smith, and a good all-around person. What an absolute loss to the community!

;~( this is very sad news. I only knew him via forums but I admired his ingenuity and can do attitude. Prayers of peace for his family and friends.

Very sad to hear that. 2012 apparently didn't start out as good as I thought:(

Thanks for letting us know Sam.

Damn. He was friends with friends of mine, although I never met him I was very impressed by his work and reputation from a distance, and got good advice from him more than once on forums.

My friend Gary Eagle and I were just talking about the old timers dying the other day, and Grant in the same conversation.

I wish I'd gotten the chance to meet him. He was Mr. power hammer and hydraulic press, among other things, and seemed to have a real sense of humor.

R.I.P., sir.

Rest in peace Mr. Sarver, he was a heckuva innovator, and a great repository of information. He will be missed by many, family first and foremost. My thoughts and prayers for his family.

Grant was definitely one of the nicest, knowledgeable, and most helpful people out there. I never had a chance to meet him either but he helped me with a ton of things. This is a major loss. =(

This is very Sad Grant was a good friend of mine he will be missed by all of us.

I didn't know him well, but he brought a great depth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the NWBA conferences.
I'll never forget the year he put wheels and a lawnmower motor on a Barcalounger and brought it to the conference- everybody was giggling and bombing around, it wasn't safe to walk in the area, but it sure was fun!!

Using a pair of tongs he made for most of the day yesterday was bittersweet. He will be greatly missed.

Fellow Blacksmiths,
I am sorry to announce that Grant Sarver passed away this morning due to a aortic aneurism.
Grant was a Founding Member of the NWBA, past Board Member and a very gracious supporter and contributer to our organization and the world of blacksmithing. He was a unique fire that burnt brightly amongst our forges and will be very much missed.

Our condolences go out to his family and we will post any services information here once they are determined.
