Has anyone else had bad luck with this material? I tried it on my platen and it has too muchgive to allow a true flat grind. I get sort of a rounded grind. Am I doing something wrong or is this the nature of the material. Also, I am making a plate to cover my platen out of 1/4" by 2" 01. Who can I send it to for heat treating. Thanks.

It's the nature of the material. You can get a flat grind using it, but you have to use light pressure and move it around a lot.
For heat treating, check with Rob Simonich or Paul Bos, I hear they're the best.

yes the stuff is frustrating...I like it a lot when its fresh...but it mushes out real fast and doesnt give you a true flat surface for long.....so i ususally just take it off and put some more on frequently.....only flat grind kitchen knives and machetes/camp knives...and dont make many of those.
